Outcome edit

Option 3: New Creation: What was one useful outcome that was created at the event for the Wikimedia movement?
Module:WikimediaAfricanTable compares the existence of articles across the top 20 most viewed African language Wikipedias, as well as a selection of European languages spoken in Africa. A selection of workplace health and safety articles at User:John P. Sadowski (NIOSH)/Language grid#African articles shows that much work remains to be done on this topic in African languages.

Connections edit

We talk about the Global South in the Wikimedia community, but it was amazing to be able to travel there for the first time and hear firsthand about the challenges people have faced there. Some examples: I learned that there are only a few hundred junior-level books in Xhosa; that many people learn to read and write a European language in school but never learn to read or write their native language; or that many computers in Africa still use Windows XP, which limits Kiwix to using 32GB thumb drives.
