Goals edit
Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
- We are happy about the way the project went, though the project encountered several issues that prolonged the timeline of the project.
Outcome edit
Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
2-day event at 3 locations | events were organized at 3 different locations; Lekki (Lagos), Epe ( Lagos State University), Ibadan ( University of Ibadan) | |
least 20 participants per location | Average of 18 participants per location. | Kindly note that we were unable to use the dashboard at Lekki's event to measure the number of participants at the event because many of the participants are celebrities and who are not interested in creating a username. So, we focused on training and the benefit of using Wikipedia. |
10 new editors are recruited | 9 new editors were recruited within the project life cysle | User:Edriiic User:Heismadboy User:Louiell1 User:Saucefocus User:Jimmie44 User:InehGabrielAgha User:Valmoses User:Jesugbog0 User:Dayomanuel |
Number of articles created or improved if at least 50 new articles were created and 50 new articles were added | 48 art3es were improved about Nigerian women on Wikipedia and photos were added to commons. | Kindly see the two links shared in line One |
Learning edit
Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
- The project was organized in partnership with two major gender-focused organizations in Nigeria like 1. The Swedish Embassy in Abuja, 2.Exquisite Magazine the organizer of the ELOY Award for promoting prominent women in Nigeria. The partnership brought about the participation of many prominent women across the length and breadth of the country to the event held in Lagos.
- We recorded more on-wiki contributions at the event held by the Wiki Fan Club at Lagos State University because of the extension of the project completion date.
- The deputy ambassador at the Swedish embassy was on the ground at the event held with the Exquisite Magazine.
- Recently, we observed a major deletion history of many of the articles created about Nigerian women on English Wikipedia, so, we decided to extend partnership to the Yoruba Wikimedian User Group for organising edit-a-thon and this approach added five new biographies about Nigerian women;
- What did not work so well?
- The protracted strike between the Federal Government of Nigeria and The National Association of Academic Staff Union (ASU) in Nigeria, which lasted for 9moths elongated the projected life cycle of the project.
- Contrary to our plan, we only organised training in the event organised with the Exquisite magazine in Lagos because all the participants were celebrities and many of them were too busy to edit Wikipedia.
- What would you do differently next time?
- A virtual meeting could serve as an alternative to salvage the unnecessary extension of the project date in future due to any event that we did not envisage during the planning of the project.
- Since, a-day training may not be enough for a volunteer to become an editor, we need to make special arrangement for monitoring of newbies. This approach could; peering of an experienced user with two newbies, or series of training within the project life cycle to stabilise the new user on the platform.
