Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Yes.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
5 events | 7 events | Requests came from community members to bring workshops to 2 additional cities Tamale and Koforidua and we obliged. In all, we had: |
40 participants | 72 participants | We had 7 instead of 5 events. It's worth mentioning that we had 90 attendances for the 7 events. Some of the 72 attendees were repeat attendees which add up to the 90. |
20 new editors | 63 new editors | Though we exceeded our expectations, 11 out of the 52 according to the dashboard didn't edit. Reported reasons include arriving late at events and having problems with their accounts. |
100 articles created or improved | 148 articles edited and 13 out of that were created during the events]]. | For the 148 edited, 30 of those articles were edited more than once mostly at different events. That said, it'll be more accurate to put the unique number of articles edited at 120 though the dashboard says 148. |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
Partnerships
Partnering with Developer's In Vogue, a group of women in technology. One event in Accra was dedicated to them. The 'special' event held for them, made them more comfortable they said.
- What did not work so well?
Timelines
Event timelines didn't go as expected. We had to add April as well. But it's nothing worrisome for us. It happens.
The 4 hours duration set aside for the event also dragged to 6 hours often. It's not too much of a problem once participants have snacks and want to keep working.
Volunteers Coordination
In as much as the Rapid Grants team assume all the time that the key job of coordinating events under this grant scheme should be unpaid doesn't change the reality of how difficult it is for project leaders. Volunteers should be compensated somehow.
Reporting tools limitations
The Outreach Dashboard has been a real blessing in helping us measure some aspect of our impact but we wish it'll delve a bit deeper. The bigger and detailed projects get, the more we realize this. We are willing to engage the tools team to share what we know on how best we can measure more effectively. I think Grants should work more with this tool to measure impact.
- What would you do differently next time?
The group will start considering Annual Grants where we can actually hire staff to coordinate projects like this.
Finances
editGrant funds spent
editPlease describe how much grant money you spent for approved expenses, and tell us what you spent it on.
The budget in GHS was 5,897.16 and budget in USD was 1136 with an exchange rate of USD 1 = GHS 5.19.
We spent as follows:
Resources
editItem | Budgeted $ | Spent $ | Explanation |
---|---|---|---|
Data | 104 | 167.63 | Additional events required more data |
Graphic design | 97 | 0.00 | Hiring took forever. It was a drain. We went without it. |
Food & drink | 500 | 636.5 | Additional events required more food |
Transport for volunteers & facilitators | 229 | 156.41 | |
Phone calls | 29 | 28.9 | |
Venue | 77 | 98.26 | Unexpected requests to pay for rent came from venues we initially had access to for free |
Miscellaneous | 100 | 47.2 | |
1136 | 1134.9 |
$1134.9 x 5.19 = GHS 5,885.46
Remaining funds

$11.54 / GHS 59
