Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
  • The mobilization of participants during online sessions in different countries and face-to-face in Niger has made it possible to have more participants now know the Wikimedia movement and the usefulness of joining it to fill the gaping information gap on Africa in general and on the different countries in Africa.
  • Two very motivated communities from Niger and Senegal very motivated and available especially that of Niger which we find very committed and which organizes more sessions;
  • At least two (03) people including a woman are able to animate workshops with us our futurs workshops;
  • The commitment of participants motivated by the desire to discover more Wikipedia and contribute to sharing information about their community;
  • Communication through our digital channels helped to give more visibility to the activities on several social media pages;
  • Creation in the course of partnership with French Institute of Niger.;
  • Launch of the Wake Up Africa / Niger Wiki community for more regular activities in order to maintain the motivation of this newly established community in Niger which is in the process of being formed;
  • Launch of the Wake Up Africa / Senegal Wiki community for more regular activities in order to maintain the motivation of this newly established community in Senegal which is in the process of being formed;
  • What did not work so well?
  • Poor internet connection demotivates some volunteers;
  • Low participation of participants in online activities;
  • Unavailability of rooms for regular face-to-face training in some countries, particularly in Niger and Senegal;
  • Despite our communication and discussion efforts, we found that the Burkina Faso community is less committed to Wikipedia sessions and brother projects.
  • What would you do differently next time?
  • Contact earlier more sponsors, training partners and trainers for more impact of the workshops which could relieve certain loads. Involve more professional and non-professional photographers Wiki Afrique en images which aims to provide a platform for all people involved in the photography of concerts, festivals and other cultural events related to Africa and Afro descendants, buildings.
  • Partnerships with institutions in Africa and in the diaspora elsewhere or working for the promotion of gender.
  • Engage more participants in online sessions
  • Continue to discuss with the community of Burkina Faso and also engage in collaboration with other communities such as Gabon, Central Africa, Chad and others.
