Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Wikimédiens du Bénin User Group has organized during last year 2021, the third edition of Wiki loves monuments photo contest in Benin. Thanks to our local community, although the COVID-19 impact, and all the energy garthered by the restitution of 26 historical objects from France, we've reached some of our goals. The contributions helped to improve the quality of Benin monuments photos on Wikimedia Commons, and articles about the monuments on Wikipedia. Due to the COVID pandemic, all the activities were online. Overall, we are satisfied with how the project went.

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

We are satisfied with the number of uploaded photos and the variety of monuments photos we've got. More than 500 photos and almost 20 monuments reached, for 500 photos of 15 monuments expected.

  • What did not work so well?

We haven't achieved involving at least 25 participants uploading photos. Only 7 participants had uploaded photos during the contest period. Also, the number of illustrations used on Wikipedia is 9, against 75 expected.

Due to the restitution of the 26 historical objects from France to Benin, our cultural Ministery wasn't available to provide to us the aothorization of taking picture of all monuments for the contest. In fact, in Benin, there is no FOP.

  • What would you do differently next time?

We've already started the process of having authorization for taking pictures of all monuments during our contest and hope to achieve it before next contest. We also have to find ways to engage more participants uploading pictures.
