Outcome edit

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Recruit new editors We recruited 35 new editors during the training session but most of these new editors couldn’t contribute because of IP block. To create the new accounts, we used the dashboard which was efficient
Increase skills for existing editors Existing editors were able to focus on SDG related topics in Ghana and contributed efficiently. We provided training on fact-checking and in-depth research. Trainings consultations provided additional resources in data and information gathering.
Create and improve WikiData items on Human rights and climate topics. There was a total of 10.1K revisions for Wiki Data Items. Also, a total of 51 items where created in relation to the topic
Add or improve and create content SDGs which includes; Climate, Human Rights and Inclusion topics. Below are the statistics for the campaign:

- 635 articles created - 8.34K articles edited - 37.4K total edits - 43 editors [8 existing and 35 new editors] - 906K words added - 45.1M article views

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

Providing virtual working hours helped to address various (technical and individual) challenges encountered in participating in the edit-a-thon.

Providing both online and on-site training helped to bridge gaps, geographically and digitally.

We also had more language Wiki's join the campaign, like Gurene and pidgin.

We also trained three sign language interpreters, and had one assist during the events.

Dashboard metric [1]

Article list which worked on [2]

  • What did not work so well?

The IP Block experienced by new editors discouraged them from contributing. This was as a result of the extended waiting time for those who appealed, as there seemed to be no response to the appeal

  • What would you do differently next time?

Working on how best to get more audio visual representations for the events on Inclusion. I believe there is more content to be gotten from there, to support the hearing impaired community.

Anything else edit

Anything else you want to share about your project?

The team had a wonderful opportunity to learn from participants and also share as We're excited to raise awareness of SDG-related issues and Wikipedia and its sister projects in Ghana. We would want in the coming year to broaden our audience to include people in rural areas because the information movement hasn't yet reached everyone there.
