Goals edit

Kurume Institute of Technology held a "1Lib1Ref" type workshop. Students filled out worksheets, reviewed their contents, and then edited them.

Meihokan High School Hakata SNEC's "MyPro" is an inquiry-based learning program in which students decide on their own topic, research it, and present their findings. The process is similar to Wikipedia, so reflecting on Wikipedia may be useful for someone else.

At Imajuku, students created a new article about a local burial mound. We edited the article using materials from the local library and explained how hobby images can be displayed on Wikipedia to make the article more engaging.

"BIZCOLI" explained that there is still a lack of things and images to be included in Wikipedia and that treating local information like an encyclopedia can increase civic pride.

The "Western Japan Library Council" explained that by holding a Wikipedia editing event, they expect to make effective use of library resources, improve the reference skills of librarians, and increase the number of users with a clear purpose.

"The Kitakyushu Science and Research Park Academic Information Center Library" explained how Wikipedia works. We also had a hands-on editing experience of "Shikashiki-Pedia," which I manage.

The Hirado Library has a commemorative book of Teisuke Oki, but it is not reflected in Oki's article, so I edited it on the spot and the four librarians deepened their understanding of Wikipedia.

Learning edit

  • What worked well?
    • Although the schedule was overcrowded, I believe that each lecture helped participants understand the significance of Wikipedia, its editing system, and its use.
  • What did not work so well?
    • At Kurume Institute of Technology, students were asked to do "1Lib1Ref," in which they were asked to freely select an unattributed article from the Japanese edition of Wikipedia related to Fukuoka or Kurume and search for its source in the library, using an inquiry-based learning method. However, since some students were not able to understand the process in the limited time available, only about 50% of the articles were actually reflected as sources.
  • What would you do differently next time?
    • In the future, we will devise a better way of explaining the process, including more concrete examples.

Finances edit

Grant funds spent edit

This time we applied for and received a grant of 173,000 Japanese yen. Of that amount, we spent 120,494 yen. We did not spend as much as we had originally planned because we did not have to pay for the venue and other expenses.[1]

Remaining funds edit

52,506 Japanese yen remains, which the 海獺 manages in cash. We plan to use it for an upcoming Wikipedia event and will contact you with the content once we know the specific plans. Alternatively, we ask that you reduce the amount by this amount the next time we apply for the grant.
