Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well? Project promotion was definitely something that went much better than expected. We managed to get coverage from multiple coverages including from The Edge Markets[1] and Amanz[2][3] (local information and technology news site) which helped boost the reach of this project, aside from the paid promotion across social media. This, in result lead to 258 participants who uploaded 562 pictures of local Malaysian food, especially those from Borneo which are lesser known to most people in Peninsular Malaysia. The registration and uploading process was easy to understand by new users, as a lot of those who weren't familiar with the system were also able to submit photos easily.
  • What did not work so well? We faced a problem with ensuring that the participants fully comply to the technical requirements of submissions, despite having stated them on the project page as well as in advertisements on social media. We also faced some issues with time management as some of our organising members weren't able to complete our promotional posters and advertisements on the expected time, and a lot of our plans were unable to be executed to its full extent.
  • What would you do differently next time? We would definitely aim to prepare a lot of things earlier, and also have a system to ensure a more structured workflow. This would include having more team members to organise the event, which means that if one is unable to complete a task, there will always be another team member to take their place.
