Goals edit
Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
- We managed to meet several of our goals, with areas to improve. Overall, we are very happy with how the project went, and our post-event survey (see below) provided very positive results. As in past years, we are pleased to have been able to draw in hundreds of editors to create thousands of articles across many different editions of Wikipedia. We also began the important process of restructuring our leadership to have more leaders, distributed workload, and better collaborative tools. We continue these efforts and hope to have a more effective 2018.

Learning edit
Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- Recognition, however small, works very well. We provided postcards and certificates to top participants, just like last year.
- The International team was not as organized as expected, but we learned the process and are continuing to expand and organize an effective international leadership teams.
- Some of the larger events (e.g. English Wikipedia) needed more organizational support for article judging, to check for quality and copyright infringements. We did have instances of editors contributing many poor translations or copyright infringements, which strained organizers, participants, and general editors. To prevent this, we'll need to recruit adequate organizers and judges for each wiki to be able to thoroughly keep up with all submitted articles.
- Communication between different communities is important. Having people able to translate information and ask as liaisons is needed for a large international event like this.
- To support long, trivial work, we would like to further invite more people joining the international team, and provide better incentive to do so (recognition, small merchandise, etc.)
- We took several months too long to prepare and send out postcards + certificates. Organizing and preparing both the postcards and all the shipments is very time consuming, and delegating the task is vital.
- We are building a datastore to improve our process of sending out postcards, certificates, and other items for participants.
- We have some super contributors who contributed more than 100 articles; for these folks we would like to provide another tier of recognition to provide further motivation. Next year, we plan to deliver t-shirts for contributors who contributed more than 30 high-quality articles.
- It is important to have promotional merchandise on-hand and ready to go, such as stickers and buttons for edit-a-thons.
- Philippines asked us to change the duration time of our event. For next year we are considering accommodating this time change and will see how it goes.
Post-Event Survey edit
- This survey only target participants who wrote more than 4 qualified articles. Total responses are 449, approximately 400 response are valid.
- 14% are female editors; Over an increase of ~1% female editors in comparison to last year.
- 12.5% editors have less than 1-year editing experience, 45.3% have more than 5-year-experience
- 18.8% editors learn about this event by invitation/talk page message, 53.8% by Central Notice and 15.8% by event page.
- 67.7% editors rated "Fountain" (our judging tool) 1 or 2 out of 5 (1 being the best), 78.2% rate 1, 2 or 3 (out of 5)
- 84.5% editors express that they will keep contributing to Asian content
- 95.5% editors would like to receive updates on the next WAM event
- 46.9% editors are willing to be an organizer next time
