Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
  1. The support we received from the WMF
  2. I am excited that faculty members found the training interesting and are looking forward to a follow-up training.
  3. The student's willingness to contribute and becomes a member of the community
  • What did not work so well?
  1. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on eight months of industrial actions. This disrupted our proposed activities, and it was difficult to implement our mentorship program as many students and academic staff who participated lost interest. This is one of the reasons we had to conduct a third training as a refresher. This also impacted our reporting.
  • What would you do differently next time?
  1. We realized that we were supposed to notify the WMF of the industrial actions that truncated academic activities in all Nigerian universities. In the future, we will notify the WMF as soon as such things occur.
  2. I have a research laboratory, and I have permanent staff members, interns, and corp members who come annually for training in my laboratory. I plan to introduce Wikipedia editing as a compulsory extracurricular activity in my lab.
