Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Our goals for this event were:

  • Socializing of SQ Wikipedia contributors through the yearly meeting of the community; - There were tens of participants in Wiki Weekend 2017 most of which were new contributors of the project. We were happy to see that they were very willing and curious to learn, and very collaborative with each other. Especially during the workshop sessions they would also seat and work together to reach the tasks their tasks. Also during the meetups and discussions we could see that people were very friendly with each other and looking towards our other events, some also offered to help organizing them.
  • Recruit more Wikidata editors through workshops (first day); - One of out main focus of the event was to put more efforts on Wikidata and get people to better understand this project. We believe we did a good job for people who were getting started and hopefully we will have more workshops related to wikidata also in the future. What we think that maybe we could have done better was to have also a session for experienced wikidata contributors since most of the sessions were only for beginners.
  • Recruit new editors for SQ Wikipedia; - since most of the participants were from Albania and also new to wikipedia this helped us reach our goal. We had sessions who would teach them how to create a new articles, what they should consider when doing so, shared some tips etc.
  • Establish a strategy for the next years activities (planning for Wiki Loves Monuments 2018, Hack4Herritage etc) through the meetups of the second day. - we had two successful meetups during the days were we gathered and planned our next steps. We were happy to see that more people were willing to join us to plan the next activities. We shared with them our efforts to establish Albanina Community User Group Albania and the focus of the group. The next steps will be to have more local events at the Open Labs Hackerspace so people can have a place to seat and work together, and share what they have learned and worked on after being part of Wiki Weekend 2017 and afertward we will gather to organize the next big events.

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?

We were really productive in terms of creating and improving new articles, especially during the second day and reached our goals.

  • What did not work so well?

We needed more time on Wikidata workshop and we needed to allocate more time on this workshop.

  • What would you do differently next time?

It seems that having a smaller, but dedicated group of editors is more productive.
