Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, as a new baby in Wikipedia l am very happy with the project and the achievements we did as a team. l had fewer participants than expected, but more articles were written and of relatively good quality for first timers. We were able to conduct 2 face to face sessions and 7 online edit-a-thons via Whatsapp calls, chats and Zoom. Most of the participants were very new to Wikipedia thus a lot of talks were on what Wikipedia is. The participants are interested in the future projects as they will be now familiar with the Wiki space.

Outcome edit

Please report on your original project targets.

Project metrics

Project metrics Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
15 participants for the campaign 6 active participants and 9 registered but not active The registered participants were all working librarians and journalists hence the workload was too much for them.
100 entries created or improved 22 articles on Wikiquote created, 3 Wikipedia articles created and 6 articles improved the participants were all new to Wikipedia hence the fear to edit. The original target was a bit ambitious as l am also new to the wiki space and l are happy with the large number of good quality articles created by this small group of people. There are a few participants who are still working on articles in their sandbox.
3 edit-a-thons and online follow up sessions 2 edit-a-thons and multiple WhatsApp follow up sessions There was a variation in the number of people that could attend each session for edit-a-thon and follow up sessions. Challenges ranged from work commitments to poor connectivity. However WhatsApp was available most of the times even for one on one sessions with participants Session 1 = 9 people face to face; session 2 = 5 people online; session 3 online = 4 people; session 4 = 6 people; session 5 = 6 people face to face

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well? - Partnering with InforInnov and ZIMLA made it easy to look for participants through them who were at least computer literate and ready to edit.
  • What did not work so well? - Wikipedia is new in my country hence the need to persuade the participants now and again was very difficult. Most of them were citing different challenges from network challenges to busy schedules at work and school. however the overall problem was the ump for editing was not there from most of them because of the new space of Wikipedia.
  • What would you do differently next time? - involving students' club at universities for they are still keen to learn new things and they have connectivity for their school work. Others learnt about the campaign late but were very interested so extending the time for campaign will help next time.
