Project Plan edit

Activities edit

  1. What is the purpose of the meeting and why is it important to your community?
As stated above, the goal of our meetings is basically to engage and train new and existing editors; help close some content gaps and improve articles relating to our geographic location on academic disciplines, the society and generally make the effort to improve the Wikimedia s.
At each meet-up, we will focus on specific activity, which we would have decided on through our social media platforms. This physical meet-up is envisaged to give room for editors to come together and sharpen each other, i.e. share ideas and expertise and if anyone encounters any challenge, then together we will fix them. It opportunities to discuss, strategize and brainstorm around issues relating Wikimedia s. Our meet-ups, during one of which we had a road-walk, has attracted many new members into the community.
  1. If applicable, what benefits have you seen from doing this kind of meeting in the past?
This community has had 6 physical meet-ups since inception in 2017. Also, we have an active Whatsapp group through which trainings have been successfully carried out. We engage in discussions, tackle tasks, and handle any challenges encountered by any editor on any Wikimedia and this have yielded positive results. Out of about 40 people that created a Wikimedia account through the Whatsapp group, the following have had significant edits across Wikimedia s:

These editors are new and their activity is steady. We can do more in our university's youthful society.

  1. How will you let participants know about the meeting?
We have always engaged in the use of our social media platforms, the WhatsApp and Facebook being the major ones, to reach out to one another. These has always yielded positive results as these platforms has been resorted to by many for help anytime it is needed.
  2. How will you keep participants engaged after the meeting is over?
After each meeting, any new community member will be added to the WhatsApp group. And if there is any member facing any challenge in editing, such a member would have been informed of the readiness of the other members to help tackle the challenges
  3. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this ?
Our user group has been organizing meetings and events for over a year. However, resources have been a challenge. It is believed that with more resources, better planning could be made. Being a mainly student community, more resources will help us to provide regular training, editing, and create social activities that will ultimately support our growing community. Regular events, that can help build a real sense of communal awareness can be organised with more resources and also meet the needs of our more experienced editors.

Note: In addition to your project-specific measures of success, you will also be asked to report on some Global Metrics at the end of your final report. Please keep this in mind as you plan, and we'll support you as you begin your project.

Pinging the foundational members of Wikimedia UG Nigeria for inputs (@T Cells: and @Olaniyan Olushola:).
