Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Overall, we are happy with the project. We had fewer participants than expected, but more articles were written and of relatively good quality.

Outcome edit

Please report on your original project targets.

Project metrics

Project metrics Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
60 participants 45 participants
500 articles created or improved 658 articles created or improved
1200 photos used on Wikimedia projects 1,340 photos used on Wikimedia projects Each article had at least 2 photos to illustrate the heritage site.

Learning edit

What worked well? What didn't work so well? What would you do differently next time?

  • We had a lot of good engagement on our Facebook page -- people seemed to like communicating with each other about what articles they were writing and motivating each other by updating the group on how many articles they had written and how many photos they had used.
  • We had to remind participants several times to keep up with tracking their scores. Depending on the number of participants, we might have to do this ourselves next time.
  • Giving online gift cards as prizes was really easy. We would definitely do that again.

Finances edit

Please describe how much grant money you spent for approved expenses, and tell us what you spent it on. Please email receipts to rapidgrants AT wikimedia DOT org

  • Prizes = $700 USD

If there are remaining funds, please list the amount here. Remaining funds must be returned to WMF, reallocated to similar activities or applied to another approved grant. Let us know what you'd like to do.

No remaining funds.

Anything else edit

Our community has organized WLM for the last three years and it was time to organize a contest to put all those good photos to use! It was definitely a very complementary activity to the photo contest. A number of the photo contest participants participated in the writing contest and edited Wikipedia for the first time. Seeing their images in use is very motivating and 12 of them have continued to edit monthly since the contest ended. Thanks for putting us in touch with the volunteer that helped us with the scoring bot. It was very useful!
