One Physical event and an Edit-a-thon One Physical event and an Edit-a-thon The goal for this project was achieved in terms of the number of events to be organized. This include an in-person training and edit-a-thon.
40 participants 46 participants The project targeted 40 participants for the training and edit-a-thon. However, a total of 46 persons participated in the event. This therefore implies that the organizers exceeded the total number for this project. You can find the list of the participants here
25 New editors recruited over 30 new editors recruited The organizers exceeded the target for the number of new editors to be recruited. In fact, over 80% of the total participants were newbies and they were trained and participated in the edit-a-thon. You can see the usernames of the newly recruited Wikimedians here
50 Articles created or Improved 90 Articles Created or Improved At the time this report is being compiled, about 90 Wikipedia articles have been created or improved in the English Wikipedia. More articles are still going to be created or improved by the participants in the coming weeks. See the dashboard summary here

  • What worked well?
The participants were keen and interested in learning Wikipedia editing and this made the training easy. A good number of the participants also had good knowledge of climate and environmental issues in Nigeria, thus, making it easy to identify articles to edit. Furthermore, the availability of experienced Wikimedians and refreshment during the project execution ensured success was achieved in all areas of the project.
  • What did not work so well?
We encountered IP block issues which made it difficult for some of the participants to create their Wikipedia Username.
  • What would you do differently next time?
I would guide potential new volunteers to create their Wikipedia Usernames before the date of the training and/or edit-a-thon so we can avoid the challenge we experienced in this project.
