Goals
editWiki Loves Africa 2017 went well in Côte d’Ivoire. We are satisfied with this edition, in terms of organization in Côte d’Ivoire.
The 2017 campaign generated a lot of enthusiasm. The organized activities were well received. From the beginning to the end of the contest, team members and other volunteers were available and very involved ; they showed availability. We registered more participants than expected.
We also uploaded more photos (mostly of good quality) and improved more articles than expected. However, we were unable to create new items.

Learning
edit- What worked well?
A mobilized team. An available and committed community. Communication via our Facebook fan page and group. Articles about the contest in online media. The fourth edition of the contest had a great echo in Côte d’Ivoire, and beyond.
We held all the activities planned for the 2017 campaign. Three training sessions (photo shooting, uploading, media conversion into wiki formats). Four evenings dedicated to editions (pictures uploading and contributions on Wikipedia). Two days of permanence at the User Group headquarters and a " Soirée de contributions " (pictures uploading and contributions on Wikipedia).
For photo shooting and sensitization activities, we have traveled to several cities in the south, central and northern of Côte d'Ivoire : Grand Bassam, Aboisso, Ferkessédougou (Ferké), Toumodi, Yamoussoukro ... In Ferké, for example, a local Wikimedia community has been settled to conduct of activities in the north of the country, for more diversity in ivorian productions.
The " Challenges téléversement " have been important levers in driving Wiki Loves Africa 2017 in Côte d'Ivoire. For two weeks, community volunteers and supporters were invited to take and upload pictures on the theme " People at Work ". The winner was the person who uploads the most pictures. And the latter received a reward.
- What did not work so well?
We encountered some Internet connection issues, especially during the common upload and training sessions. The Internet speed was not always up, given the large number of participants.
We have also encountered difficulties with administrative authorities. Local officials and administrative authorities, asked to participate in activities, showed their skepticism about the reuse of images. Others have not responded to our requests or did it so belatedly. We had to be flexible and adaptive, seize the opportunities of public cultural events, like Abissa (in Grand-Bassam), to realize shootings.
- What would you do differently next time?
The " Challenges téléversement " were a real success, especially in terms of community mobilization and involvement. We intend to repeat them in future editions.
Contributions sessions dedicated to the reuse of pictures were very helpful and friendly. These moments will be renewed for the coming editions, and we will train more people to reuse the images to illustrate/improve articles on Wikipedia.

Anything else
editThis is the fourth consecutive year that Côte d'Ivoire participated in Wiki Loves Africa. The 2017 edition was very rich in lessons. We have achieved, even doubled the original objectives. We essentially note commitment, mobilization and availability of community.
Mid-November 2017.Going for a four-day mission to Ferkessédougou (Ferké) [600 km north of Abidjan], our delegation is the victim of a severe bus crash where there is unfortunately a death and several serious injured passengers.
The three members of the delegation came out with scratches, wounds and pain in the body. Nevertheless, they will continue the mission after receiving some emergency care. Back in Abidjan, they received more appropriate health care.
The incident did not discourage our volunteers. They held all planned activities, including the establishment of a local community of wikimedians, which will help boost contributions.
