Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
Yes, I am happy that most of our goals were met. As a small group and a new organizer of one of the Wikimedia projects, I am confident that we improved the local Wikipedia articles in different languages, recruit and train new editors, and use various photos from commons. I am overwhelmed with the support given by the participants and experienced Wikipedians in making the project successful.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.
Target outcome | Achieved outcome | Explanation |
100 participants | 29 online participants, 12 student council, and 15 offline participants | A total of 56 participants were engaged in the implementation of the project. |
500 articles improved | 1234 articles were improved | The accomplishment exceeds the target number of articles improved. |
2000 photos used on Wikipedia pages | 2390 photos were used | There are 2,390 images from commons used in local Wikipedia articles. |
20 new editors/individuals | 23 new editors | Out of 29 online participants, 23 of them are new editors. |
Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
The CBSUA shared their resources, specifically personal computers, laptops, and venue, during the edit-a-thon sessions of participants from the university. This is a big help to new editors without their personal gadgets used in editing.
Collaboration with other experienced Wikipedians helps a lot in meeting the target number of edits. An invitation to talk page of the Bicol Wikipedia was posted (see invitation re: Imbitasyon sa pagpartisipar sa Wikipedia Pages Wanting Photos in the Philippines 2021 at https://bcl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olay_sa_Wikipedia:Portal_kan_Komunidad).
Promotion through various social media platforms reached thousand of individuals and reactions. It is a good platform to promote the project and an easy tool to document the progress of the project. In total, the WPWPPH promotion has 37,771 persons reached and 2.7K reactions with 68 shares. (see Facebook page: https://web.facebook.com/WPWPcampaignPH).
- What did not work so well?
Partnership with the student council of the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture did not work so well. We have an initial talk with the student council, but because they are busy with the enrolment for the opening of the semester, they do not have time to disseminate the information about the project. Also, the term of the student council ended in July which was one of the reasons why they could no longer do their part in the project.
- What would you do differently next time?
Identification of possible risks and problems in the project implementation will be done before the conduct of activities to ensure the smooth flow of the project. Intensification of online and offline promotion should also be done through collaboration and partnership with the local organizations.

Remaining funds
editDo you have any remaining grant funds?
Yes, there was Php 13,056.24 remaining on the requested fund. Some of the items were not used yet such as courier because most of the souvenir items/tokens for the participants were distributed personally. Streamyard subscription was not also purchased because it was arranged by the team to be a counterpart of the CBSUA, but due to the unavailability of the students who are expected to join in the online tutorial session, it was also not utilized. Internet or data connection which is supposed to be used as support for the volunteers in Edit-a-thon was not completely utilized because CBSUA offered their facilities (particularly laptops/computers, venue, and internet) during office hours.
Anything else
editAnything else you want to share about your project?
It would be better if there is a system that identifies the local Wikipedia article with no photos so that it will be easier for new editors and Wikipedians to identify which article needs to be improved by adding related photos.
The project was also promoted in the local radio station in the Philippines that reach local listeners and online viewers through FB live (please see: https://www.facebook.com/rmndwnxnaga1611/videos/3027676110885092 at 1:04:40)
