Report accepted
This report for a Rapid Grant approved in FY 2021-22 has been reviewed and accepted by the Wikimedia Foundation.

Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went? Yes.

  1. We recruited new editors
  2. We increased skills for existing editors
  3. We added and improved content on the incubator and on wikidata
  4. We trained members on the basics of Wikipedia.
  5. We held discussions about Wikimedia Foundation as the backbone of all Wikipedia and its sister projects.

Outcome edit

Please report on your original project targets. Please be sure to review and provide metrics required for Rapid Grants.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Number of events 3 3 We engaged both existing and new participants in three diffrent events
Number of total participants = 20 32 We engaged both existing and new participants
Number of new editors = 20 12 We recruited 12 members instead of 20 because most of the people who wanted to create an account were blocked at the point of accounts creation
Number of Gurene Wikipedia articles created or improved = 50+ 70+ Instead of the proposed 50+, we created 70+ articles
Number of Wikidata items created or improved = 200 100 Instead of the proposed 200 items we created 100 items
Number of repeat participants (for projects that include a series of events) = 20 25 Instead of the proposed 20 repeat participants, we had 25 repeated participants

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
We had the opportunity to meet students from University of Education, Winneba and University of Cape Coast and it was really interesting to learn from the students understudying Gurene at the Degree and the masters level.
  • What did not work so well?
We experienced a lot of IP block that affected the overall editathon and training sessions, in fact, we will be more than happy if this thing is fixed once and for all.
Both new editors and old editors faced IP Block therefore this affected the work rate; delayed creation of new accounts, unable to edit the incubator, etc until these were resolved.
all
  • What would you do differently next time?

We would do a lot school visits where they are studying Gurene as a language and also having Gurene language clubs so that we will have more participation. Also, we will a

Actively engage the creators of Khaya App and Guren Dictionary to interact with the community to develop tools which address our editing problems.
