Goals edit

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

Yes, for the moment I am happy with the results, in autumn, after school start we will have to check together with the kids their willingness to go on with the project and share their experience with younger teens.

Outcome edit

Please report on your original project targets.

Target outcome Achieved outcome Explanation
Improve Wikipedia articles about Pisano, Colazza and Nebbiuno All the articles were significantly improved in italian, one of the girls is working on a french translation Project was located in the library of Pisano so we had plenty of sources available, we also had some private sources (book, newspaper articles) by the major of Colazza
Add local items to Wikidata We were able to add a lot of local monuments and items to Wikidata
Add pictures to Commons We added some picture to Commons, some monuments are still missing unfortunately we had three rainy days out of five
Add the towns and create an itinerary on Wikivoyage We created and added basic infos to the towns in Voy and created one itinerary it:voy:Colazza, it:voy:Pisano, it:voy:Nebbiuno and it:voy:Giro_del_Motto_dell'Arbujera due to bad weather conditions we were able to create only one itinerary
Mapping the three towns on OpenStreetMap We were able to add plenty of info on OSM bad weather again didn't help, one hamlet is still to do
Scanning of one antique book about local history and geography We were able to scan one volume out of four, upload it on Commons and start working on it on it.source it:s:Indice:Il_Lago_Maggiore,_Stresa_e_le_Isole_Borromee_-_Vol._1.pdf The scanner arrived after beginning of the project, the scanning procedure is quite slow (and boring), around 1,5 pages for minute so it took really a huge amount of time

Unfortunately we didn't create a dashboard for the project, we had some interesting results but the purpose was also to leave something unfinished and still to do, in order to motivate the participants to meet again and go on after school start (september october).

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well?
It was quite easy to involve the group (2 boys and 6 girls) in the activities, it was a really good mix between working in front of a pc and walking around in the woods and small towns to collect data (coordinates), pictures (Commons) and descriptions (Voy) for the projects. We even created some content for Mapillary and hid a cache for Geocaching (kids loved it!). Some of the guys discovered completely new information about the place they live. At the end they were happy to "have learned how to create contents for the web" which was something new for all of them. Two of the kids confessed some past vandalism on 'pedia (they were really sorry), one of them is going to become a really fine mapper for OSM, one of the girls liked very much to take pictures. So giving them a quite extensive range of activities we found something everybody of them liked.
  • What did not work so well?
Unfortunately we had bad weather on three days out of five so we couldn't do all the things we planned to do.
  • What would you do differently next time?
Working 8 hours was quite intense for the kids, in the afternoon the "productivity" dropped significantly so next time we will do a "part time" project.

Finances edit

Grant funds spent edit

Please describe how much grant money you spent for approved expenses, and tell us what you spent it on.

  • We spent exactly € 247,50 for 11 persons (8 students and 3 volunteers) * 5 days * € 4,50/meal

Remaining funds edit

Do you have any remaining grant funds?

No.

Anything else edit

Anything else you want to share about your project?

This project is a "brick" of a broader project to involve teens in community life of this small area. In autumn the communities plan other activities to involve younger citizens so the guys taking part in this first project will be called to share their experience with younger kids and do some activities together (sort of a peer education).
