Project Goal edit

Through this project, we expect to:

  1. Introduce participants to Wikidata query service (SPARQL) and quick statements
  2. Create/update Wikidata items of Ghanaian public Senior High Schools.
  3. Celebrate Wikidata:Eighth_Birthday.

Following the above, our ultimate goal is to:

  1. Create awareness about Wikidata and its tools
  2. Recruit new editors for the various Wikimedia projects
  3. Increase skills for existing editors

Wikidata Eighth Birthday

Although Wikidata's eighth birthday will fall on Thursday 29 October 2020, we will host the event on Saturday, 31 October 2020. There are at least three different Wikimedia communities in Ghana; we will invite all the groups to join us, with the hope that the weekend will be more convenient for everyone. While this celebration will be virtual, we will use the opportunity to introduce participants to Wikidata and show a short demonstration of SPARQL query service and Wikidata quick statements.

Edit-a-thon challenge

We will launch a two-day Wikidata edit-a-thon challenge for participants to create and update Wikidata items of Ghanaian public Senior High Schools. All participants will receive 'Wikidata 8th birthday' branded T-shirts, and the top 3 contributors will win MIFIs.

  • Wikimedians of Africa mailing list

What will you have done at the end of your project? How will you follow-up with people that are involved with your project?

At the end of the event, we would have:
  1. Introduced participants to Wikidata and other Wikimedia projects.
  2. improved the skills of existing Wikidata editors.
  3. Recruit new editors to join our community.
  4. Created/added the following Wikidata sstatements to Ghanaian public schools.
