Goals edit

Music & Entertainment Wiki Edit-a-thon II Poster

Did you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?

  • Yes, we meet our goals; we engaged 19 existing editors and recruited 11 new editors who we introduced and guided through Wikipedia, Twi Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons mainly in line with the project goals and the broad introduction of Wikimedia Foundation and its overall projects.
  • We added and improved the content of 2000+ articles on English and Twi Wikipedia in relation to Music and Entertainment Industry players in Ghana. We created more than 100 articles also on both English and Twi Wikipedia in line with the project.
  • We added quality content in the form of images on Wikimedia Commons and created new categories for existing and newly added images. We also added captions and descriptions to existing images.
  • We also added and improved content on Wikidata of existing data of musicians. We also created new data items and added data of newly created articles on Wikipedia and Twi Wikipedia.

Learning edit

Projects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:

  • What worked well? The organization of the edit-a-thon or events went extremely well, as the team was able to introduce new members to Wikipedia whilst guiding them through on the 101 Wikipedia workshop and friendly space policies. It gave us the chance to introduce them to Wikipedia, Twi Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikimedia Commons.

  • What did not work so well? Due to the limited time and the team therefore couldn’t exhaust all lessons under Wikidata. However, the new editors were taken through all the necessary beginner needed tools for Wikidata and as part of the project continue to check up on new participants to guide them through to make their editing time on Wikidata and its other sister projects a wonderful one

  • What would you do differently next time? We would get ensure to get more people in the music and entertainment industry involved even though some did show interest but were few.

Anything else edit

Anything else you want to share about your project?

  • There was a surge in editors who showed a lot of interest in editing articles related to the Music and Entertainment Industry in Ghana and outside Ghana. Out of that, we look forward to forming a small community or working group with the name Wikimedia Ghana Entertainment Community. This is still in the ideation and deliberation stage whilst we continue to edit such articles. Participants really enjoyed the sessions.
