Project Goal edit

What will be the outputs of your project and how will those outputs contribute to advancing a specific Movement Strategy Initiative 24.

What specific Movement Strategy Initiative does your project focus on and why? Please select one of the initiatives described here

Cluster 24 of the Movement Charter aims to ensure that the Hausa community members, particularly women, comprehend the essence of the movement strategy and actively participate in discussions concerning the governance of the movement. This effort will benefit the Hausa communities, particularly women, in the following ways:

  • Enhanced Awareness: By focusing on promoting understanding of the movement strategy, more women in the Hausa communities will become aware of the broader goals and objectives of the Wikimedia movement. This awareness will enable them to grasp the significance of their contributions and participation in shaping the movement's direction.
  • Increased Participation: With improved engagement in discussions about the governance of the movement, Hausa women will have a greater say in decision-making processes. Their voices will be heard, and they will be empowered to influence policies, initiatives, and projects that impact their community and knowledge representation.
  • Inclusivity and Representation: The emphasis on community engagement ensures that the diverse perspectives and experiences of Hausa women are considered in the movement's governance. This inclusivity fosters a more representative and equitable movement that caters to the specific needs and aspirations of the Hausa community.
  • Empowerment through Collaboration: Active involvement in governance discussions allows Hausa women to collaborate with other community members, learn from diverse viewpoints, and build valuable connections. This collaborative environment fosters a sense of empowerment, encouraging women to take on leadership roles within the Wikimedia movement.

Overall, the efforts under Cluster 24 of the Movement Charter will create a more inclusive, informed, and empowered environment for Hausa women to actively participate in shaping the future of the Wikimedia movement and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and information accessibility in their communities.

Project Background edit

When do you intend to begin this project and when will it be completed?
We hope to carry out this project between September 9, 2023 and October 29, 2023. While our reports will be ready 30 days accordingly
Where will your project activities be happening?
Our community members always prefer online events so as to improve their digital skills However, We will therefore have physical and one online event to reach all our members. We aim to ensure that everyone benefitted.
Are you collaborating with other communities or affiliates on this project? Please provide details of how partners intend to work together to achieve the project goal.
No, but we tend to extend more collaboration with other communities after the project.
What specific challenge will your project be aiming to solve? And what opportunities do you plan to take advantage of to solve the problem?
The specific challenge that the project aims to solve is the gender inequality prevalent in Hausa communities, particularly regarding women's access to education and leadership roles. In many Hausa communities, women face societal barriers that hinder their ability to fully participate in social, economic, and political activities, limiting their potential for personal and community growth.

To address this challenge, the project will capitalize on several opportunities:

  • Cultural Sensitivity: The project will adopt a culturally sensitive approach, recognizing the importance of respecting and preserving the cultural values and norms of Hausa communities. By understanding and working within the cultural context, the project can effectively engage community members and promote gender equality without imposing external values.
  • Community Engagement: The project will actively engage with the Hausa community members, particularly women, to understand their specific needs, aspirations, and challenges. This approach ensures that the initiatives and interventions are tailored to the community's unique circumstances, leading to greater relevance and impact.
  • Leadership Development: Networking events will be organized to equip women with leadership skills and opportunities. This will encourage their active involvement in decision-making processes and foster gender-inclusive governance.

By leveraging these opportunities, the project endeavors to create a transformative impact in Hausa communities, breaking down gender barriers and fostering a more inclusive and equitable society where women can thrive and contribute to the community's development.
