June
editIn this month, we were able to accomplish a lot, despite the challenges we encountered.
Data Gathering
editAfter our grant was approved, we drafted a letter and submitted to the Parliament of Ghana Library, seeking permission to use the library. While waiting for approval from the Parliament of Ghana Library, we designed and opened registrations for people to apply for the role of the Wikidata-in-residence. Then we reviewed applications, selected and interviewed applicants for the role of the Wikidata-in-residence(WIR). We later drafted contract agreement for all selected Wikidata-in-Residence applicants. We also designed quick guides and excel sheets to be used for data gathering for all WiRs. To ensure that less errors are made in the gathering of data, we organised training for all WiRs.
First Parliament of Ghana Contest
editAfter designing flyers and promoting the events for a week on all our social media platforms, we had about 49 people register to participate in the contest. While our social media team handled promotion of the event, our IT support team designed a comprehensive landing page on Wikipedia which provides the contest rules, resources, leadership board and the list of members of parliament of the 5th parliament of the 4th republic of Ghana.
Challenges
editFinding the data of all the Members of each parliamentary term is more difficult than we expected. We could only find books containing details of the MPs for the 1st and 5th parliament of the 4th republic; the 1st parliament of the third republic; and the 1st parliament of the second republic at the Parliament of Ghana library. The remaining parliamentary terms, we had to teach all those playing the role of Wikidata-in-Residence how to search for the information of the MP's on the internet. We thought them creative ways of searching and using google books to find the information about the various MPs.
July
editData Gathering
editSome Wikidatain-in-Residence continued to search for information for the members of the parliamentary term they were assigned.
5th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana Contest
editWe launched the first Parliament of Ghana contest on Saturday 4th July 2020. Out of the 50 participants that registered, about 28 were able to attend the launch. And about 28 participated in the contest. Instead of a month like we expected, the participants were able to finish working on 230 members of the 5th Parliament of the 4th Republic within two weeks. And the jury used a week to clean up, announce and award winners. We can conclude that this first contest was a success because the participation was great and we were able to finish in two weeks. Although we had some participants who were making hasty contributions which turned out to be mistakes we corrected, we also had some participants contributing articles that were well sourced, with info box and a lot of information. As a result we have had to make some revisions to our rules which required that we give more marks to participants that produce quality work and deduct marks of participants that add wrong information to either Wikipedia articles or Wikidata items.

Extension request
editNew end date
edit30th September 2021
Rationale
editIt is has been quite challenging completing all the batch upload aspect of this project due to unstable internet connectivity and some technical challenges with Open Refine. The extension will give us more time to complete the batch uploads of Bibliographic data and then submit our report.Celestinesucess (talk) 14:47, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
