Project title

Semantic structuring of academic data: taking the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics of University of São Paulo into Wikidata

Research proposal edit

Description edit

Description of the proposed project, including aims and approach. Be sure to clearly state the problem, why it is important, why previous approaches (if any) have been insufficient, and your methods to address it.

The purpose of this project is to model and to analyze the academic profile of the Institute of Mathematics and Statistics using Wikidata. We want to enable the integration of Brazilian scientists with other multilingual bodies of knowledge created on Wikidata.

We aim to document and to enrich our metadata quality and processes using Wikidata.

Through visualization and exploration of data, such as, recognition of possible patterns, study areas, main conferences/events as means of works dissemination.

Our main objectives are:

(1) to semantically structure the main scholarly data into Wikidata, for instance, authors, keywords, date publication, cites, journal, year, etc. And, to propose the creation of local properties to describe the Brazilian model of publication evaluation.

(2) to develop a model to automate, as far as possible, the registration of scientific publications into Wikidata.

(3) to use Wikidata as an intelligent digital content infrastructure to document relationships between academic data and unstructured data such as images, videos, sounds, etc.

(4) to apply wikidata to promote, visualize, understand and discuss based on graphs, local metrics of development of Brazilian research.

(5) to analyze using standard bibliometric indicators the scientific productions. Finally,

(6) to design a vitrine page as an history institutional and to public important data institutional.
