Proposal
edit1. What is the overall vision of your organization and how does this proposal contribute to this? How does this proposal connect to past work and learning?
We are a group of wikimedians and women who pool our resources to support community based organizations (CBO's) working to address inequalities that women in Northern Nigeria face. Based on the support we have provided to date, we see an opportunity to bring the vast knowledge that exists on-wiki to these CBO's to train them and improve their capacities for education. The longer term goal is to build support them to cascade their on-wiki learnings to communities of women who do not have access to the wikipedia, while also gathering the oral knowledge from the cultural repositories in those communities that they work as well. We see a symbiotic process of taking out and bringing in.
2. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important?
key things
- Community organizations in Northern Nigeria are enabled and strengthened to contribute to the wikis and cascade the on-wiki knowledge to women who typically do not have access
3. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
1) Research and compile a comprehensive list of knowledge resources most relevant for the communities of women that CBO's typically work with 2) Train the Leadership of CBO's to edit wiki articles and how to find other resources 3) Engage with other language communities in Northern Nigeria to build a support network for the CBO's 4) Set up tentative structures for coordination amongst the CBO's
