Part 1 Understanding your work edit

1. Briefly describe how your strategies and activities proposed were implemented and if any changes to what was proposed are worth highlighting?

Engaging community members on social media via WhatsApp, Telegram, Twitter, and Facebook has also been an effective strategy in ensuring involvement.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you feel are being effective in achieving your goals?

We used the hybrid mode (both online and offline formats ), and using the two formats helped us to reach and engage those whose time is limited to attend the physical event and those whose interest in virtual events is limited.

Community outreaches also helped us to engage community members beyond contributing to the Wikimedia movement, this involved visiting and engaging in weddings and helping those in need in our community.

Continuous orientations to newbies, this a weekly program to orient newbies, this helped the newbies to easily catch up and find where they can easily contribute.

3. What challenges or obstacles have you encountered so far?

.

.Limited turn-up: We didn't reach the expected number of newbies .Account blocking; numerous accounts for the newbies were blocked, which to some extent discouraged the newbies who were very enthusiastic .Volunteer retention: Retaining volunteers after contests is still a hard task .We were not able to liaise with many partners as we have expected. .Insufficient funds: The limited resources have affected us throughout the implementation.

4. Please describe how different communities are participating and being informed about your work.

Different community members have been informed via our social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook, word of mouth and using press( Newspapers)

5. Please share reflections on how your efforts are helping to engage participants and/or build content, particularly for underrepresented groups.

Through continuous engagement, we have learned that it's important to begin a mentorship program for the newbies, with this program we hope to assign newbies to experienced Wikimedians both locally and outside Rwanda.

In the second half of our work, we shall create wiki clubs that will operate in thew 4 divisions of the country, with this approach we will be able to reach out to new bies and actively active new communities in areas that are not fully represented in the overall User group activities.

We intend to resume partnerships that were established during the WikiIndaba conference in 2022.

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What have you learned so far about these areas during this period?

possible outcome; Increased awareness: Communities will be more aware of the value of open knowledge and the use of Wikimedia and will be interested in continuing to connect and share this awareness with others.

Learning questions: How have Rwandan people's(Women, men and young people ) perspectives about Wikipedia changed after participating in our User Group activities? If you are working with several diverse groups you may want to disaggregate for each. Are more women and young people using Wikimedia projects/open knowledge projects differently in their daily life, if so how or why didn't they? Do they share this with others, if so how or why not?

Community members will transform from consumers of knowledge to contributors to Wikimedia. learning questions: What sparked their interest to join the movement? what needs to be done.

expected outcome: New/existing editors will be having the skills and motivation necessary to continue contributing to Wikimedia projects

Learning questions: What of our new approaches helped them and which ones didn't work ..

7. What are the next steps and opportunities you’ll be focusing on for the second half of your work?

For the second half of our activities, We want to focus majorly on the university students, this is informed by the findings of our recently concluded research, which revealed that the majority of our community members are within various universities in Rwanda, therefore we intend to establish partnerships with universities respectively.
