1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Wikipedia for Hausa Women Inclusion: Embrace equity and level the playing ground. Is a project with the goal of recruiting Hausa women editors to Wikimedia projects to bridge the gender gap and increase their representation on Hausa edition of Wikimedia project's platforms. We aim to achieve this by conducting outreach activities, providing training and building a supportive community of Hausa women editors on Wikimedia projects. Hausa Wikimedia projects are among the fastest growing Wikimedia communities in Africa. However, the community suffer from a significant gender gap in terms of women content contributors, editors etc. Hausa language is one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa, with over 80 million speakers worldwide and a significant number of women, yet they are underrepresented on Wikimedia projects. This project will seek to address this gap by recruiting and supporting underrepresented Hausa women to contribute to Wikimedia projects in Hausa language.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

Our project plan is to conduct outreach activities to identify and recruit underrepresented Hausa women editors who are interested in contributing to Wikimedia projects. This will involve partnering with local organizations, including women's groups, universities, and cultural organizations, to raise awareness of Wikimedia projects and recruit potential editors. We have already contacted the following partner organisations: Jam'iyyar Matan Arewa (JMA), Taskar Nasaba, and Badarawa Women Development Centre.

Provide training and support to these editors, including training on editing and contributing to Wikimedia projects, as well as support and guidance on best practices, community norms, and policies. This will involve developing and delivering in-person training sessions, online follow up discussions, creating training materials, and providing ongoing support to editors.

Build a supportive community of Hausa women editors, where editors can connect, share knowledge, and support each other in their editing activities. This will involve creating online spaces, such as email listings and social media groups, where editors can connect and share knowledge, as well as organizing in-person events, such as edit-a-thons and meetups, where editors can meet and collaborate.

Increase the representation of Hausa women and free knowledge sharing on Wikimedia projects, by supporting Hausa women editors to contribute articles, images, and other content related to Hausa people, places, culture and knowledge. This will involve working with editors to identify gaps in content related to Hausa, as well as providing support and guidance on creating high-quality content that meets Wikimedia's notability and other inclusion policies.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

1. We will conduct an awareness program to identify and recruit Hausa women who are interested in contributing to Wikimedia projects by reaching out to the partner organisations .

2. Carry out two physical training workshops on editing and contributing to Wikimedia projects and will also provide support and guidance on best practices, community norms, and policies.
3. We will build a supportive community of Hausa women editors, where editors can connect, share knowledge, and support each other in their editing journey.

Learning, Sharing, and Evaluation edit

15. What do you hope to learn from your work in this fund proposal?

We will try to understand the impact of gender diversity on the quality and quantity of content produced. We may learn which tactics were most successful in attracting women to participate in Wikimedia project, such as targeted outreach to women's groups or social media campaigns. We may also learn about the barriers to women's participation in Wikipedia editing: By speaking with the women who participated in the project, we may gain insight into the challenges they faced in becoming editors and any changes that could be made to improve the experience for future volunteers. We may understand by monitoring the ongoing participation of women editors in Wikipedia Hausa editions, whether the project's impact is long-lasting and whether it is possible to maintain and build upon our achievements.

16. Based on these learning questions, what is the information or data you need to collect to answer these questions? Please register this information (as metric description) in the following spaces provided.
