1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo is one of the newest tertiary institutions in the Northeastern Nigeria with thousands of students and hundreds of teaching and non teaching staff. The project will contribute in three different ways; to make Wikipedia and it's sisters' project acceptable in the institutions, to encourage and engage the students and lecturers in contributing to Wikipedia and it's sisters' project and to create sustainable groups for the institutions.

Making Wikipedia and Sisters' Projects acceptable in the institution: Despite the uniqueness and popularity of Wikipedia and it's sisters' project, many lecturers and students lack trust in the projects because of the traditional believe that anyone can edit and anything can be added to the page. Based on these reasons, they do not accept Wikipedia as sources for referencing. To tackle this issue, I and my experienced Wikimedia editors team will carry out online and offline campaign in institutions emphasising on the genuineness and notability of Wikimedia projects.

Encouraging and engaging students & lecturers in contributing to Wikimedia projects: Many of the students and lecturers also believed that Wikimedia projects are carried out by robots or machines and the information there is not subject to change. To tackle this issue, I and my team will raise awareness on how to use Wikimedia projects for research purposes, this will attract their interests and from there they will be taught how to generally improve wikimedia contents.

Creating Sustainable Wikimedia Communities: After training the staff and students, the only way to ensure their continuity of the project is to bring them together under a platform where issues and challenges faced by them in the process of contributing to Wikimedia projects can be solved. Therefore, the sustainability of the project necessitates the creation of this platform for the institutions.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

Wikimedia Promotions in Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo will be using the following Strategies;

This will also involve account creation and minor editing issues. The existing editors will also be strengthened with the session. The session will be carried out via zoom and the link will be publicised.

First Physical Workshop: This will be a one on one interaction with the fifty participants recruited. In the session, practical sessions will be hold on how to improve Wikipedia and it's sisters' projects.
