Part 1 Understanding your work edit

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

The Wikidata training marked the onset of pioneering the Wikidata event which involved both in person and online training. The librarians met at the Kenya national libraries service and it was well executed with the collaboration of the seasoned Wikimedians, Sadik from Ghana and Alice from Uganda. The Wikimedia Community User Group Kenya members joined the training via the online platform, making it interactive, informative and worthwhile through information dissemination and knowledge. Such activities as Wikidata's 10th birthday celebration ,teambuilding enhanced a lot of fun, networking and interrelationship. The community was eager to join since this was the first time a Wikidata program had been hosted hence triggered entrance of newcomers to the team.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

Some of the strategies that made this feasible included the lobbying of the librarians and the user group members to participate in the training and celebration of the Wikidata's 10th Birthday. Bringing on board experienced wikipedians, Sadik and Alice fostered greater understanding and appreciation of Wikidata by the participants. Prudent utilization of the funding enabled member attendance to Wikidata training sessions and the 10th anniversary celebrations, By enabling data, photoshoot, a cake to celebrate the occasion, administration, coordination, and facilitation costs, branded t-shirts, and travel costs for the in-person events this enabled our goals achieved.

3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Strongly agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Strongly agree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Strongly agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

Allowing and encouraging members of the group especially women and youths to participate in the training and event conceptualization created an enabling environment to utilize their ideas, talents and efforts to have a successful event. By bringing participants from various backgrounds ,this fostered exchange of ideas and interpersonal relationships. Coming up with Wikidata Items has enhanced building content.

Part 2: Your main learning edit

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

Involving the User group members and librarians in training facilitated by the seasoned Wikimedia to an extend of the participants being able to create Wikidata items made us learn that where there is will there is a way and coming up together as a team can enable content creation and betterment of Wikidata. On how Wikidata work, we realized that it vast with knowledge and it is both human and machine editable.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

Our preparation and timeline were both affected by the funds delay, but we were ultimately successful. The targeted participants increased from the expected number and it made the event more colorful. Lessons from this was that budgeting sometimes could be pegged on the highest possibilities to cater for the unforeseen scenarios.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

Planning in advance and collaborating with organizers from planning to completion will help avoid challenges of last minute rush in completion of certain tasks. Will endeavor to utilize research and knowledge gathering for future implementation of the projects ,this could be areas of sustainability and climate change .

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).
