There were 2 hybrid sessions eg physical and online training, the physical training took place at Nigerian Book Foundation, Awka, Anambra State while the online training took place on Zoom. The hybrid trainings took place on16th September 2022 and 23rd September, 2022 respectively.

A contest started immediately after the training and ended on 6th November, 2022.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

Publicity were done in all Igbo community Whatsapp group and my personal social media handles.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Strongly agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Strongly agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Strongly agree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Strongly agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Strongly agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Strongly agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

When I saw that the participants exceeded the number of persons I budgeted, I allowed them and used my personal fund to sort them out know that they will contribute positively to the project. We had 54 participants instead of 40 budgeted.

Part 2: Your main learning edit

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

I learnt to forecast my budget and not to under budget in regards to the participants and economic situation in the country. The project made me to pay more attention to my budget and forecast the number of expected participants. Or only allow number of shortlisted participants to attend and rescript others.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

The positive part of it was the number of participants that attended increased and their output which is their contribution increased too.

The negative part of that is that I under budgeted the cost of participants data, number of participants, feeding and transport reimbursement.

The funds arrive very late, it came in on 7th September, 2022, so we couldn't start the project on 1st of September, 2022 so the project commenced on 16th of September, 2022.

This taught me to give more attention to my budgeting. Another was the outreach dashboard tracking issue- that will find another track the edit a thon ( contest) or fix the issue before next edition.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

Yes, from my findings, this project can be replicated in all the African countries. I have a plan of partnering with all the User Groups in Africa for this project.

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).

12. Did you have any difficulties collecting data to measure your results? This could include things like a lack of time or resources, or the expertise in your team to collect this data. It could also include difficulties with particular data collection tools.

Yes

12a. State what difficulties you had.

We had a very difficult challenge when the Igbo Wiktionary came of the incubator on 13th of October, 2022. The outreach dashboard tracking tool failed to track the contribution even we added the new landing page url, we postponed the date of the contest twice and contacted the technical team yet, the problem was unable to be resolved, we had no other choice than to end the contest on 6th November, 2022 and track it from 13th October,2022 - 6th November, 2022 manually because the Outreach dashboard stopped tracking on 12th October, 2022.

12b. How do you hope to overcome these challenges in the future? Do you have any recommendations for the Foundation to support you in addressing these challenges?

I recommend that such problem should be fixed. The problem reporting button on outreach dashboard should be fixed because it is not functional. And their should be easy access to the Outreach dashboard team.

13. Use this space to upload any documents and provide links to any tools you have used that would be useful to understand your data collection (e.g., surveys you have carried out, communications material, training material, program and event dashboard link, project page on Meta).
