As a result of this collaboration, we organized and executed different photo walks from our associative partners as of Mr. Vimal Thapa (Vice-President of Bird Conservation Nepal and Bird expert), Mr. Ramesh Chaudhary (Board Member of Bird Conservation Nepal and Bird expert), and Mr. Jaya Nath Bhandari (Member of Bird Conservation Nepal and Bird expert).

Part 2: Learning edit

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: In this project through this collaborations with numerous parties and associates we hope to built a strong and productive enthusiastic task force to create and distribute the free and open knowledge to everyone needed.

Well, learning has always been a crucial part of every event, especially the mass events. So, something we overcame this year is cross-organizational collaborations with various field-related organizations during photo-walks and awareness sessions. Afterwards, we do have hope and believe to continue such mutual ventures in future as well.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

Good Sides of the Project:;

  • Coordination and collaboration: It has built up nice coordination and relationships with Bird Conservation Nepal, bird experts in Nepal, and reputed authors. Their collaboration and active participation in this project by way of photo uploading, species identification, and article creation have enriched Wikipedia.
  • Team's work: The Wiki Loves Birds project has collaborated with a good number of professional photographers who have great equipment for macro photography. So this project has formed an enthusiastic team of photographers who are willing to contribute to Wikimedia Commons.
  • Creation and expansion of articles: This project has created and developed more than 100 articles on birds of Nepal on Nepali Wikipedia, which has upheld the very motto of the Wikimedia movement of knowledge development and sharing.

Number and Quality of photograph: This time we were able to upload numbers of quality images of birds found in Nepal to Wikimedia Commons.

Bad Sides of the Project;

  • Weather: This year, an unwanted rain disturbed our plan for a photowalk.
  • Less Participation from Community: On October 08, 2023, I put a proposal on Nepali Wikipedia Village Pump regarding the call for participation in this event, but only a few Nepali Wikipedians showed interest in it. However, we started the project by collaborating with BCN and the Friends of Birds Group.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

Learning itself is a continuous process and we’ve been learning a lot throughout the project ever since. Regarding sharing all these experiences and learning along with the result, shortly we will surely elaborate the concept and theme with different communities working within Nepal during meet-up and gathering. In the future we’re desperately looking forward to sharing and expanding these concepts globally with other global communities and groups via online meet-ups and global events like Wikimedia summit and Wikimania.
