Part 1 Understanding your work edit

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

This was the first such project to run in Namibia; thus, project organisers reach out to other experienced organisers running similar projects in other countries who have experience in conducting such projects over the years. Thus, we were trained on how to go about this project.

Thereafter, volunteers were recruited and trained on uploading photos and editing on Wiki Commons through a virtual workshop.

The next stage was to launch a photo contest that was widely shared on WhatsApp with the due date of the contest. We have also organised several photo hunt trips with fellow volunteers. This has provided an opportunity for volunteers to capture related photos on the theme in various locations. This was also an opportunity for team-building among volunteers.

When the deadline for the contest lapsed, we reached out to our network of experts, who trained us on how to use the Motange tool to identify the winners of the photo contest. After the training, the selection process for the identifying photo contest was concluded. Thus, the award ceremony was conducted, and prizes were given to contestants.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

The strategy that helps us achieve our goals is attributed to the exploitation of the network of expertise that organisers have access to. This enabled us to learn along the way as there was skill pollination, and this made the conduct of this project easier.

In addition, having due dates on each particular activities of the project has also helped the team to be consistent in excuting project targets.

Part 2: Your main learning edit

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

Yes, we were able to equip ourselves with digital skills as young people on how to add photos to Wiki Commons as well as add attributes to those photos. This means young people were able to participate in contributing to creating information that can be accessed freely. More over, as the organizer of this project, I am equipped with leadership skills in running projects of this nature for the benefit of society, as well as networking skills that enabled me to get assistance from other volunteers in different countries.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?
