1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

According to statistics Rwandan women coverage are still low in different sectors like in journalism they are only 23.8%, in business sector they are 33%. This initiative is related to the Wiki Loves Women project. Wiki Loves Women contributes toward the UN’s SDG 5 Gender Equity: achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls. Within the 2030 Wikimedia Strategy, the Wiki Loves Women project works towards resolving several recommendations, and in particular Invest in Skills and Leadership Development. One of the recurring initiatives of Wiki Loves Women project is the #SheSaid drive.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

As volunteers of Wikimedia through community user group Rwanda, we plan to do this project to raise awareness to help bridge the gender gap on women and provide space where participants from Rwandan community will learn, improve their skills and contribute on Wikimedia projects especially Wikiqoutes through #SheSaid drive. The #SheSaid drive is aimed at improving the visibility of women in creating new or improving already existing Wikiquote entries related to them. The project first organized in Rwanda in 2021 by Wikimedia Community User Group Rwanda as Wiki Loves women and it was successful.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

Launch event, learn more about #Shesaid campaign and its impacts in Rwanda, and organize contest edit-a-thon for the participants during the campaign.

We shall organize a physical event with edit-a-thon to launch the event and another physical event to close the event where we will share the success of the community campaign, recognize and award prizes to 5 top contributors in the Edit-a-thon the people. It will be effective because young or new participants will get environment for contributing and improving

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

Our local activity will be organized within a global framework, local organizers are User:UWIMPUHWE va, User:MrTallBoy, User:Rosine Igirimpuhwe and User:Germain92, they are experienced editors who can support our work. The drive will be globally organized by the Wiki Loves Women team. The global team does provide communication material (e.g. social media cards and posts), communication channels and is organizing online training and support for participating groups (office hours, one-on-one, telegram group, etc.) Key people for mentorship are User:Anthere and User:Islahaddow, and key communication support is User:Afek. Several formally participating people, including administrators on Wikiquote, already indicated they will join again and can further help, more in depth.

Sharing skills and knowledge towards women and youths digitally through researching and writing about notable Women this allows society to access information in order to make up their own minds and boost their confidence on addressing some situation.

Target participants are women in general and Wikimedia volunteers from Rwanda, I will reach them via social media, WhatsApp groups and email as well. In retaining new participants, I will add them in community WhatsApp group.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

We will adhere strictly to the Wikimedia friendly space policy and Universal Code of Conduct to make sure that everyone is exercising all the rights they have.

We will announce the project through various local communication channels like Whatsapp groups of Wikimedia Community User Group Rwanda and on its discussion's pages on meta.
