The aim of this project is to help global campaign in bridging the SDGs goal 13 gap that exists on English Wikipedia with a focus on Nigeria content. This will help in creating awareness on issue of Climate Change in Nigeria. Through this contest we recruited new editors and engage existing editors also. In this project, we invited the participants to work on the articles relating to Climate and Climate Change. A list of articles was created on the program’s Meta page mainly from articles which are related to climate category. More than 50 participants registered for the project on Google form that was sent out and 41 editors made it to the dashboard. The training started on the 13th of Oct with a Physical event.

Some Individual participants also translated at least 100+ articles relating to Climate Change into Igbo and Hausa languages which are major languages in Nigeria. Considering the diversity in Nigeria, the translation was much needed to ensure that the locals can understand these articles. Throughout the contest, weekly training were organized, where participants and organizers were present and get to share knowledge, discuss and answer questions on the challenges they are facing during the course of the event. A total of 211 articles from participants contributors got improved and 173 pictures where upload under the Category of Wikiactivate SDG in the whole event.

According to the rules of the contest, participant need to contribute to Wikipedia Articles, Wikiquotes and Upload pictures on WikiCommons which are related to climate. The articles were reviewed by experienced Wikipedians and further checked by the organizing team to determine the Winners. They winners of the Edithathon emerged from the participants who Contributed on the 3 major Wikimedian projects we focused on which are Wikipadia, Wikiquote and WikiCommons

You can recall these learning questions below: We plan to evaluate the results of WikiActivate for SDGs Goal 13 in Nigeria to understand how can we bring more participants to the awareness in next round of awareness

During the course of the project we learned that most participant are not aware of the SDG goals and what it is all about. We have to give a background lecture and explanation of what the Sustainable Development Goals are and all about. We also let them understand that we are focusing on Goal 13 which has to do with Environment and Climate. In the future we would love to pick another Goal and run a campaign on it in other to create more awareness on the SDGs.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

The venue of our physical meeting was changed because a construction was happening at the venue and that made us to start looking for a new venue one week to the event. Due to this change, we had to send emails and calls notifying participants about the unforeseen change in venue.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

We are open to collaborate with other community members on our learning by sharing our meta page where we documented some of the articles we worked on. We are also intending to reach out to members who are planning to do a project relating to climate and assist in organizing and also give them access to the WikiActivate WhatsApp group
