Grant Proposal edit

M. Please state the title of your proposal. This will also be the Meta-Wiki page title.

Promotion of free scientific research on WIKIMEDIA in the city of KALEMIE in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Local

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Most Congolese researchers do not master the issues of research on MIKIPEDIA. Due to this ignorance, many need free knowledge but do not know how to get it. Since books are so expensive in Africa, Congolese researchers can use free knowledge on WIKIPEDIA thanks to the research methods we will teach them through this urgent little project.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

For this project, I will use a holistic approach which consists in putting the researchers at the center of all attention. Thus, our target is the first year undergraduate students. As the DRC has launched the LM2 system, it is urgent to train a maximum of young people as soon as possible to enable them to conduct their research related to their scientific work. The methodology that we have adopted is clearly better because it will allow us to identify efficiently and quickly all the beneficiaries.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

For this project, here are the proposed activities:

  • Identification of the universities;
  • Identification of student beneficiaries;
  • Identification of training needs;
  • Planning of activities;
  • Recruitment of some trainers;
  • Training of researchers;
  • Creation of wiki accounts for all beneficiaries of the training;
  • Training on the importance of wikimedia as an engine and source of free research;
  • Certification of beneficiaries;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of the project.
4. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign or event? If so, please select the relevant campaign below. If so, please select all the relevant campaigns from the list below. If "other", please state which.

Not applicable

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

Yes, I have a very large team from WIKIPEDIA DRC. It is an experienced team that trained me and I am proud to be one of the trainers.

6. Please state if your proposal aims to work to bridge any of the identified CONTENT knowledge gaps (Knowledge Inequity)? Select up to THREE that most apply to your work.

Not applicable

6.1 In a few sentences, explain how your work is specifically addressing this content gap (or Knowledge inequity) to ensure a greater representation of knowledge.

7. Please state if your proposal includes any of these areas or THEMATIC focus. Select up to THREE that most apply to your work and explain the rationale for identifying these themes.

Education

8. Will your work focus on involving participants from any underrepresented communities?

Gender Identity, Sexual Orientation, Geographic , Ethnic/racial/religious or cultural background

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities?

Our target are the students of the universities of the city of Kalemie in DRC. The students will be gathered in a training room for a period of one month. The training sessions will take place three times a week for a class of ten students. This means that in one month we will train forty students in research techniques on WIKIPEDIA. The beneficiaries will have access to the internet, will eat during the training and will each have their own transportation costs to allow them to arrive on time in the training room. A follow-up committee will be established to evaluate the achievements of young Wikipedians.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

The objective is to allow young researchers to know the techniques of research on WIKIPEDIA in order to start contributing on various themes such as culture, art, society, politics, environment, ecology, etc.

11. Please tell us about how you have let your Wikimedia communities know about the planned activities and this proposal. Use this space to describe the processes you carried out to make the community more involved in planning this proposal. Please link the on-wiki community discussion(s) around the proposals.

This project will appear on mik and will be seen by all DRC Wikipedians. We will use other internet links to reach all our partners.

12. Are you aware of other Rapid Fund proposals in your local group, community, or region that are being submitted and that align with your proposed project?

No

If yes:

12.1 Did you explore the possibility of doing a joint proposal with other leaders in your group?
N/A
12.2 How will this joint proposal allow you to have better results?
N/A
13. Will you be working with other external, non-Wikimedia partners to implement this proposal? Required.

Yes

13.1 Please describe these partnerships and what motivates the potential partner to be part of the proposal and how they add value to your work.

I will work in partnership with the universities and the Pan-African Association for Youth Leadership and Training.

14. In what ways do you think your proposal most contributes to the Movement Strategy 2030 recommendations. Select a maximum of THREE options that most apply.

Increase the Sustainability of Our Movement, Improve User Experience, Invest in Skills and Leadership Development, Identify Topics for Impact, Innovate in Free Knowledge

Learning, Sharing, and Evaluation edit

15. What do you hope to learn from your work in this fund proposal?

Generally, the one who teaches teaches himself. I'm going to improve a lot on what I already know. The one thing I would like to see is that first, all forty student beneficiaries will be on WIKIPEDIA each with their own account. The students will master the strategies of searching on WIKIPEDIA. The students will discover that wiki research is free to use, etc.

16. Based on these learning questions, what is the information or data you need to collect to answer these questions? Please register this information (as metric description) in the following spaces provided.
