Part 1 Understanding your work edit

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

The Let's Connect peer learning project in Tanzania was implemented through the following activities and strategies: a) Planning and preparation: A team was formed to plan and prepare the project. The team identified key community members and stakeholders to involve in the project and set specific goals and objectives for the project. b) Training of peer educators: The team organized training sessions for peer educators to learn how to facilitate peer learning sessions effectively. The peer educators were trained in using interactive teaching methods, classroom management, and other essential skills for effective facilitation. c) Implementation of peer learning sessions: The peer educators organized and facilitated peer learning sessions in their communities. The sessions involved small groups of learners who shared their knowledge and experiences with one another. The peer educators used interactive teaching methods to ensure the sessions were engaging and effective. d) Monitoring and evaluation: The team monitored the project's progress and evaluated its impact. They collected feedback from learners and peer educators to identify areas for improvement and make adjustments to the project. e) Networking and collaboration: The team established partnerships with other organizations working on similar projects to share experiences and resources. They also collaborated with local authorities and community leaders to promote the project's sustainability.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

One effective strategy in achieving the goals of the Let's Connect peer learning project in Tanzania was the use of a peer learning approach. This approach enabled small groups of learners to share their knowledge and experiences with each other, which promoted active learning and knowledge exchange. The project also utilized interactive teaching methods during the training of peer educators and peer learning sessions. These methods, such as group discussions, role-playing, and games, helped to keep learners interested and engaged with the learning objectives. Another effective approach was the collaborative and participatory nature of the project. Community members and stakeholders were involved in all stages of the project, which promoted ownership and sustainability of the project. The project's monitoring and evaluation approach was also effective in identifying areas for improvement and making necessary adjustments to the project. This approach ensured that the project remained effective in achieving its goals and objectives. Finally, the project's networking and collaboration with other organizations, local authorities, and community leaders helped to promote the project's sustainability and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Strongly agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Not applicable to your fund
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Not applicable to your fund
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Not applicable to your fund
E. Encourage the retention of editors Not applicable to your fund
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Strongly agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

in the Let's Connect peer learning project in Tanzania, efforts were made to ensure that the project was accessible and welcoming to all community members, particularly those from underrepresented groups. To build out content that was inclusive and relevant to underrepresented groups, the project worked closely with local community members and leaders to identify specific learning needs and priorities. This helped to ensure that the project's content was culturally appropriate and relevant to the communities it served. Efforts were also made to create a welcoming and inclusive event atmosphere, which included providing a safe and non-judgmental space for all participants to learn and share their experiences. This helped to encourage participation from underrepresented groups who may have felt marginalized or excluded in traditional learning environments. In addition, the project team made a conscious effort to recruit a diverse group of presenters and trainers who were representative of the community. This helped to create a more inclusive environment and attract a more diverse group of participants

Part 2: Your main learning edit

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

During this period, we were able to learn about the importance of engaging participants and providing safe and inclusive learning environments. We also learned about the need to clearly communicate program opportunities and processes to participants and to provide face-to-face learning opportunities whenever possible. Additionally, we learned about the importance of building collective capacities that can further support communities, and how funding can help reduce barriers to participation in language spaces. Finally, we learned the value of tailoring learning methods to the needs and interests of participants. Overall, these key learnings have helped us better understand how to meet the priorities outlined in our application and improve the effectiveness of our program. to make this clear here is the point

1: Participants who took part in the project enjoyed being engaged and would like to be involved more. Even non-members expressed interest in joining to have the opportunity to participate.

2: The project provided a safe space for participants to learn various skills, particularly in leadership, to help develop their own communities.

3: The funding provided was instrumental in facilitating face-to-face learning opportunities, which was a major draw for participants. They expressed interest in having more of these opportunities in the future.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

During the implementation of our activities, we faced an unexpected cost due to a change in the original plan. Initially, the fund was intended to be implemented within the Wikimedia Community Kilimanjaro, but later we received an order that the fund should only be used for Let's Connect members, and our Original budget was affected. Also, We had to subscribe and make a Zoom subscription that could accommodate about 5- 6 hosts at a time to activate the breakout rooms and this affected the budget. Also, we were unable to use the jam board for the first session. This change affected our ability to perform as planned. However, we learned the importance of being flexible and adaptable in such situations and always having contingency plans in place to ensure that we can still achieve our goals despite unexpected changes or challenges.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

Building upon the lessons learned, we intend to develop our future projects with a particular emphasis on forging new alliances with the current participants of Let's Connect. We have observed that collaborating with them enables us to achieve greater impact and offer valuable insights to other Wikimedians who are not yet a part of Let's Connect."

% of participants that feel engaged with the program, are interested in continuing and are clear about the opportunities that it can offer and feel that they are supported to participate. This will be analysed through a survey and semi-structured interview with participants to measure a number of factors, such as engagement, feeling of safety and inclusion, clarity about the process, amongst other factors. This will include any other learning from what processes can be improved to further support engagement and continued participation. This will be shown in a report that captures this qualitative data. N/A N/A The thirteen (20) members of the Let's Connect Peer Learning Program in Tanzania attended a total of six (3) sessions, including the two (2) learning clinics organized in person, during the period of this grant. This was examined using a survey and a semi-structured interview, through the use of Google form and Jamboard, with participants to gauge a variety of variables, including participation, a sense of safety and inclusion, and process clarity, among others.
% of participants that have applied the skills learned to their Wikimedia work. This will be analysed through the same survey and semi-structured interview with participants to measure some of the learning outcomes and how they are applying this in practice. N/A 20 participants have applied their skills to their Wikimedia work. The survey and semi-structured interviews were provided and give us valuable insight into how participants have been able to utilize the skills they learned in Let's Connect in their community. It is encouraging to see that the program is not only providing theoretical knowledge but also practical skills that can be applied in real-life situations. google form and also we attended the event organized by them in their community.
% of general community members that value the program and see this as a way of strengthening the wide Wikimedia community. This will be analysed through a community-wide survey to gather insights from community members associated with local user groups and user group staff or board to see how participation in this program contributes to wider capacity-building and organizational goals. 12. Did you have any difficulties collecting data to measure your results? This could include things like a lack of time or resources, or the expertise in your team to collect this data. It could also include difficulties with particular data collection tools.

Yes

12a. State what difficulties you had.

Using the Jamboard and Zoom subscription.

12b. How do you hope to overcome these challenges in the future? Do you have any recommendations for the Foundation to support you in addressing these challenges?

Many of our members found it difficult to use the jam board during the first learning clinic, being their first time but, as time went on and with continuous practice and training, we were able to overcome this challenge. Also, we realized that we had to upgrade our Zoom subscription in order to activate the use of breakout rooms and easy sharing. We are now aware of this fact so, next time, we won't have to face such difficulty.

13. Use this space to upload any documents and provide links to any tools you have used that would be useful to understand your data collection (e.g., surveys you have carried out, communications material, training material, program and event dashboard link, project page on Meta).
