Part 1 Understanding your work edit

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

1. Organising Learning Clinics: Let’s Connect Kwara held two learning clinics on November 20 and December 16, 2022 with 20 participants in virtual attendance of each of them. The clinics focused on the learning needs of their participants using case studies to share and learn from. For instance: the first (1st) learning clinic focused on Basic Wikidata use and how it can support other projects, and the second (2nd) learning clinic focused on event organising and each of these clinics lasted for 2 hours via zoom. For this program, the team organised two learning clinics for a group of 20 participants and trained them on some specific Wikimedia skills.

2. Organising One Sharer to Multiple Learners Sessions (Cluster Learning Sessions): Upon completion of our learning clinics, the team embarked on a delegated teaching approach where participants were divided into three (3) groups to hold four (4) one sharer to multiple learners connections so as to promote learning through empowerment. This indicates that each group of 4 learners worked collectively together and shared their skills within the Kwara Let’s Connect Peer Learning.

On February 3, 2023, the first and second one sharer to multiple learners sessions for each group were held as a combined session. Zoom Breakout Rooms were used by each group for these sessions. On February 24, 2023, the third and fourth sessions followed the same structure. These combined sessions each lasted for 3 hours.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

1. Organising 2 Learning Clinics Target participants: 20 Activities: Determining the skill to share, Defining Let’s Connect participants to invite and organising the registration form, Designing the Learning Clinic session structure and learning outcomes, Organising any pre-session material to review and sending them to registered participants, Communicating the Learning Clinic, Facilitating the sessions, Organising material on the Let’s Connect meta resource page and Disbursement of funds. Time dedication: 2 hours per learning clinic. Number of sessions: each member participated in 6 sessions, including the 2 learning clinics organised by the team, during the period of this grant.

2. Organising Four (4) One Sharer to Multiple Learners Sessions:

Target participants: 13 Activities: Group of participants, identifying sharers, Determining the topic/skill to share, Reviewing learning materials submitted by sharers and sending to other members, Designing the Learning Clinic session structure and learning outcomes, Communicating the sessions, Facilitating the session, Tracking participants understanding and participation through the jamboard, Organising material on the Let’s Connect meta resource page for public use and Disbursement of funds. All of these activities was done in coordination with the Let’s Connect working group. Time dedication: 1 hour, 30 minutes for each session. Number of sessions: 4 Cluster Sessions were organised during the period of this grant.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Not applicable to your fund
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Strongly agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Not applicable to your fund
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Not applicable to your fund
E. Encourage the retention of editors Not applicable to your fund
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Strongly agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

N/A

Part 2: Your main learning edit

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

I was able to gather that:

1. 90% of the members are already actively participating in Let's Connect and are eager to do so in the future.
2. I learned from the comments on the jamboard and feedback survey, that participants believe the learning atmosphere is safe and welcoming.
3. Participants were able to interact with other participants and comprehend the program's procedures.
4. Members acquired knowledge and abilities that they can use in their Wikimedian activities and impart to others in their communities.
5. We developed group skills that will help Wikimedian groups in our setting even more.
6. The members greatly benefited from the logistical support because it made it simpler for them to come and fully participate in the sessions.
7. While the learning techniques are suitable for the needs and interests of the participants, physical sessions would also be very helpful because physical connections can be much more powerful.
8. I also discovered that giving participants immediate feedback and one-on-one assistance enhances their prioritization skills, which raises their contributions and participations.
9. Based on the stated observation, the project clearly exceeded expectations, and since the skills were largely chosen based on the participants' interests, they were eager to give their fair share to the project.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

Yes. We had to subscribe make a Zoom subscription that could accommodate about 3 - 4 hosts at a time to activate the breakout rooms and this affected the budget. Also, we were unable to use the jamboard for the first session but, with a series of practice, we were able to achieve that.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

Using these lessons learned as a foundation, I intend to develop our future project with a particular emphasis on forging new alliances with current Let's Connect participants. We have seen how collaborating with them enables us to assess greater effects and offer advice to other Wikimedians who are not a part of Let's Connect.

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).

Part 3: Metrics edit

10a. Open Metrics reporting

In your application, you defined some open metrics and targets (goals). You will see a table like the one below with your metric in the title and the target you set in your proposal automatically filled in. Use the tables to report the result. Use the comments column to describe any aspects of this result that you find relevant. If the results were different from the initial target (goals) then you can explain why and what you learned from this. You can also provide any qualitative analysis regarding these results. In the last column please describe the tools and methodology used to collect this data and any difficulties you might have had.

Open Metrics Summary
Open Metrics Description Target Results Comments Methodology
Participating in Learning Clinics This will be analysed through a survey and semi-structured interview with participants to measure a number of factors, such as engagement, feeling of safety and inclusion, clarity about the process, amongst other factors. This will include any other learning from what processes can be improved to further support engagement and continued participation. This will be shown in a report that captures this qualitative data. 6 6 The thirteen (13) members of Let's Connect Peer Learning Program in Kwara State attended a total of six (6) sessions, including the two (2) learning clinics organised by the Let's Connect Kwara team, during the period of this grant. This was examined using a survey and a semi-structured interview, through the use of Google form and Jamboard, with participants to gauge a variety of variables, including participation, a sense of safety and inclusion, and process clarity, among others. This also includes any additional knowledge about how to enhance the processes to promote engagement and ongoing participation. A summary that includes this qualitative data will demonstrate this.
Organizing Learning Clinics This will be analysed through the same survey and semi-structured interview with participants to measure some of the learning outcomes and how they are applying this in practice. 2 2 During the period of this grant, the Let's Connect Kwara team organised two (2) Learning Clinics with twenty (20) participants, including the thirteen (13) members of the group and other invited guests, in attendance. To gauge some of the learning outcomes and how people were putting them into practice, this was also analyzed using the same survey and semi-structured interviews with participants.

12. Did you have any difficulties collecting data to measure your results? This could include things like a lack of time or resources, or the expertise in your team to collect this data. It could also include difficulties with particular data collection tools.

Yes

12a. State what difficulties you had.

Using the jamboard and Zoom subscription.

12b. How do you hope to overcome these challenges in the future? Do you have any recommendations for the Foundation to support you in addressing these challenges?

Many of our members found it difficult to use the jamboard during the first learning clinic, being their fist time but, as time went on and with continuous practice and training, we were able to overcome this challenge. Also, we realised that we had to upgrade our Zoom subscription in order to activate the use of breakout rooms and easy sharing. We are now aware of this fact so, next time, we won't have to face such difficulty.

13. Use this space to upload any documents and provide links to any tools you have used that would be useful to understand your data collection (e.g., surveys you have carried out, communications material, training material, program and event dashboard link, project page on Meta).
