To draft articles on Vietnamese Wikipedia, our editors typically use the VisualEditor tool, which is enabled by default. This tool includes a citation function with an automatic mode that helps editors easily add references to articles.
However, this function does not work well with Vietnamese sources by default, leading to many citations being incorrectly formatted. A common issue is incorrect author names. For example, in the article "Mr. Siro" (vi:Mr. Siro), citations from Tuổi Trẻ (tuoitre.vn) list the author as "ONLINE, TUOI TRE," while citations from Thanh Niên (thanhnien.vn) list the author as "thanhnien.vn". Such formatting errors are inaccurate and should be corrected to reflect the actual author names of the articles. Of course, it is not just author names that are affected—other fields, such as the publisher and publication date, are also often incorrect.
My approach is to write configurations from scratch for each website. More details can be found here: vi:Thành viên:Plantaest/Cải thiện chức năng chú thích. It is estimated that around 80 Vietnamese sources will need configuration to ensure the citation function works correctly. This task requires a considerable amount of resources (time and funding), which is why I am writing this proposal to secure funding for improving the citation function on Vietnamese Wikipedia.
The outcome of this project will be correctly formatted citations generated from a single URL, saving editors time by eliminating the need to manually fix incorrect citations. While the project will primarily focus on improving the citation function in VisualEditor, in the long run, source editing mode and bots may also benefit.

This project is expected to be completed within three months, or about 90 days, divided into two phases:
- Phase 1 (the first 10 days): I will evaluate the technical aspects to determine the best approach for writing configurations. This may involve developing Zotero translators or configuring Web2Cit.
- Phase 2 (the remaining 80 days): I will write configurations for one Vietnamese website per day, with possible test cases to ensure the configurations function correctly.
