Part 1: Project and impact edit

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

The project aimed at addressing the systemic bias in Wikipedia, with specific reference to content gaps in the global encyclopedia. To ensure the overall goal of the project is met, the project team recruited participants for the project, trained participants to contribute to Wikipedia as well as organized series of edit-a-thon and write-a-thon to help fill the content gap in Wikipedia, especially as it concerns content related to Akwa-Ibom and Bayelsa States in Nigeria. In the end, the project was highly successful with over 300 articles created and over 90 editors participating in the campaign (https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/campaigns/akwa_ibom_and_bayelsa_content_drive_in_wikipedia/programs). Overall, the capacity buiding and edit-a-thon/write-a-thon activities were very effective and contributed to the overall goal of the project.

Part 2: Learning edit

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: It will be interesting to learn about the participants Wikimedia project editing needs, perception towards Wikimedia projects and willingness to continue to contribute to Wikimedia projects after this campaign.

The revelation from the project shows that while participants have good perception about Wikimedia projects, they are handicapped to contribute much due to infrastructural needs such as poor internet network and high cost of internet data. The recurring IP Block issue is another challenge to retention of Wikimedia editors.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

Everything went as planned.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

We are currently developing a Diff Post to share our learnings about the project with the wider Wikimedia community. We have also had interactions with our community members about some of the revelations from the project.
