The Project overview
editThe Project overview in Tamil language - 20 minutes
This is the project to find out the incomplete pages and unuploaded books of Nationalised books of Tamilnadu in libraries and three workshops in two cities of TamilNadu. Tamil Nadu government funded more than ₹12 crores (150,399.31 US Dollars) to release books under public domain which is called as Nationalised books of the 165 authors. In the year 2016, i as a Wikimedian in Residence uploaded those Nationalised 2217 books at Commons. After the five years of contribution at Tamil Wikisource, we found that in hundred books some pages are not found, some pages should be rescaned, few books are fully rescanned. Then we concluded that we should search in the city libraries. thus we are going to solve this multiple issues of the eminent Tamil books for Tamil Wikisource.
During Phase 1 of this project, we repaired 183 such books and uploaded them to Tamil Wikisource after sourcing their missing pages from libraries around Tamil Nadu. 251 new books are uploaded at Commons after the verification of the 61,724 pages
This phase II project period is three months. With in the period, i am happy for the completion of the project targets and reduced the gender gap as before.
In this phase II project, three main activities implemented and the results are achieved as follows;-
- 208 copy right free books are uploaded at Wikimedia commons.(Refer) The total number of pages of the books are 56, 617. (Refer)
- 48 books are updated (Refer), (Details) after the verification of 460 books's pages. (Refer)
- Workshops conducted in two colleges, one university department and for the college staffs. (Refer)

The 40,000 pages of the Nationalised books are to be uploaded. | The 56, 617 book pages are uploaded at Commons after the verification in 208 books. (See all the detailed books list.) | Target achieved as much expected, page numbers verified, 90% of scanned page's margins are cropped to view the printed text clearly from the tamildigitallibrary, Anna Centenary Library, Connemara Public Library and also from selected Tamil Nadu cities like Salem public library, Trichy, coimbatore. |
To find out the exact missed page/s of existing books, I and Dr. Rathai (she) prepared a check list of 521 books. | In 48 books, the exact issues are solved after the verification of the 521 books / 91, 568 pages.
