Part 1: Main Outcomes
edit1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented
Deforestation in Nigeria is a collaborative project between Wikimedians in Southeast Nigeria (University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (NAU), the Department of Geography and Institute of Climate Change Studies, Energy and Environment (ICCSEE), University of Nigeria. The project aims to equip the students of Department of Geography and ICCSEE, University of Nigeria, Nsukka with the skill to contribute high quality content to Wikimedia, Wikidata and Wikicommon. It is a six month (April 24, 2023 – October 23, 2023). The project involves three main activities, three days physical and two days online training workshop on contributing to Wikimedia (Wikipedia, Wikidata and Wikicommons), edit-a-thon and field trip to deforestation sites. Outreach dashboard was used to capture the participants contributions. Wikimedians in Southeast Nigeria were brought into the project to help train participants from the Department of Geography and ICCSEE.` The three things that interest me about the implementation experience are:
- 1. The participants were happy to be part of the project and willing to learn
- 2. The University administration was happy that the project was brought to the University
- 3. We were able to meet our target of making culturally relevant information on deforestation available in Wikimedia to Nigerian citizens.
