Project Goal: To produce Wikimedia-themed promotional items.
Description of actual activities:
As part of this grant, two types of T-shirts were produced in June 2011: 29 t-shirts for our WikiCamp event and 80 shirts bearing the new Wikipedia logo.
The Wikicamp t-shirts were distributed to the participants of our WikiCamp event; the Wikipedia-themed T-shirts will be distributed at future events.
What lessons were learned that could help others succeed in similar projects? Printing in small quantities and with more than one colour is expensive; average time to produce an item is about two weeks.
In future we would like to create items bearing the Wikimedia-logo, and come up with a better way of distributing items that is motivating for the volunteers and is cost effective.
The requested grant amount was not enough to diversify the types of objects we can offer beyond T-shirts.
What impact did the project have on WMF mission goals of Increased Reach, Increased Quality, Increased Credibility, Increased and Diversified Participation? At least 29 Wikipedians were made happier in the WikiCamp event and we expect this effect to spread to 80 more people who will have received the other type of T-shirt.
