Goals
editDid you meet your goals? Are you happy with how the project went?
We are happy with the success of our project. The event was a success and an exciting and enriching experience.
Our goal was to upload 18 videos and 30 photos. We uploaded a total of 13 videos, 146 photos, 1 audio.
Five sessions took place.
2 Virtual training courses (Google Meet, WhatsApp) about:
- presenting Wiki Loves Africa, its objectives and its vision to participants
- presenting to participants good uploading practices on Wikimedia Commons
- training participants on the choice of camera, the choice of optics (for those who have the possibility)
- training participants who use a mobile phone on: the right settings, the correct configuration and the applications that provide a cinematic rendering
The goal of the virtual trainings was to help participants put all the chances on their side in terms of image quality and sound quality.
1 physical meeting in the field with the participants to see how they implement the advice we have given them
1 day of shooting with the participants during the filming of their videos
1 final physical training workshop (to help participants improve their skills in videography and photography) and an uploading session
The images uploaded represented the theme, climate and weather, linked to the environment of Ivory Coast. We achieved our main objectives which were
- to upload images of high visual and sound quality,
- to train participants so that they acquire technical skills in quality videography and photography
- and also to train them in good uploading practices on Wikimedia Commons
The participants were very enthusiastic. We were all very involved in the project.
Outcome
editPlease report on your original project targets.
We organized
- two virtual training sessions via Google Meet and WhatsApp
- a physical training in the field with the participants to see how they implement the advice we gave them.
- a day of shooting with the participants while filming their videos
- a final physical training workshop (to help participants improve their skills in videography and photography) and an uploading session
We won an international prize.
Special Collection Prize: Best collections of images showing the impact of climate change was awarded to a collection of 13 videos from Cote d'Ivoire organized and submitted by the brand new Wiki Loves Africa Côte d'Ivoire community led by Bouba Kam's. The jurors and the international organizing team were convinced that the collection of videos represent a beautiful collaborative effort at telling stories that portray the impact of climate change on the continent. The above video tells the story about how this collection was born.

Learning
editProjects do not always go according to plan. Sharing what you learned can help you and others plan similar projects in the future. Help the movement learn from your experience by answering the following questions:
- What worked well?
The event was a success because the participants were all very involved in the whole process. For all participants, it was their first time learning how to upload images to Wikimedia Commons through Wiki Loves Africa and how to convert media files to Wikimedia Commons webm format.
- What did not work so well?
We encountered some Internet connection problems, particularly during virtual training and during the upload session. The internet speed was not always there, including some power outages.
- What would you do differently next time?
Subscribe to a powerful internet solution. Further promote the competition among young beginning filmmakers and beginning photographers to raise awareness among them about the wiki loves africa project and why Wikimedia Commons is important.

It was our first time organizing such an event and it was very challenging as organizers but at the end, the event - Wiki Loves Africa 2023 Côte d’Ivoire Fan Club was really beneficial to all of us. The event was warm, friendly and full of exchange of ideas. You can find a video of our event here: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Wiki_Loves_Africa_2023_C%C3%B4te_d%27Ivoire_Fan_Club
m:Wiki in Africa mentionned in their Results and best practices report that Wiki in Africa provided Bouba Kam and Mansita with the sum of $250 to enable them plan and organize the Wiki Loves Africa 2023 event in Cote d'Ivoire with an aim of founding a new community of Ivorian videographers and film makers. Bouba Kam is a well-known past WLA winner and has proven history of consistently participating in the annual photo contest in previous years.
