What problem does this solve?

edit

During workshops or conferences, one has to work on the audio-visual apparatus to be able to display one's slides or documents. Sometimes, it takes a lot of time to make the AV work, or it may be defective that it won't work at all. Sometimes the device being connected to the AV may have specific settings. It may take a lot of time to find the appropriate setting and finally get the AV working.

What is the solution?

edit

Do not fiddle with the AV for more than five minutes to get it working! Fiddling with the AV for long cuts down the time available for productive discussion. An alternative solution would be to find an expert and ask them to deal with the AV issue while the participants go ahead with the session.

General considerations

edit

This solution is useful only when the discussion can take place without the AV. In situations where AV is absolutely essential (as in demonstrating a process online) one cannot apply this learning pattern.

When to use

edit

Any meetup where an AV is used to supplement a talk or a discussion.
