summary:

The first encyclopaedia of the modern history was that of the Diderot and D'Alembert. Their main objective was that to explain to people the science, the arts and the crafts. Basically the aim of this encyclopedia was "practical". If we would adapt this principle to Wikipedia, we may say that people uses Wikipedia to satisfy a need but we must know that this need may be more practical and this statement may be valid mainly several countries.

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

Wikipedia satisfies a need. This need may be to have their homework done, or to know who is mister x, and so on and Wikipedia already satisfies these needs. Unfortunately in other countries there is a more practical need which is that to do some things in a better way, quickly and probably to avoid critical behavior.

There is no sense to distribute Wikipedia or to connect people to Wikipedia (for instance in the Global South) if they cannot find here what they need. If someone has the need to build a bakery, or to have a first aid guide, there is no sense to give them a roman to read. This idea would work in order to create a different point of view within Wikipedia facilitating the access to more practical article with some "how to" or some more useful article for these needs. There is no sense to increase the distribution if the content is not appropriate, it's only a waste of time.

GLAM project is huge project, Science GLAM too, but what about substituting GLAMs with no profit associations which would distribute their content and their knowledge?

Why not involving Emergeny or Médecins Sans Frontières to improve some articles which may be a first aid guide and to have it in a portal build within Wikipedia?

What is your solution?

The idea is:

• to find helpful content out of Wikipedia
• to have this content in Wikipedia
• to identify the high qualitative content already in Wikipedia
• to create an entry point to facilitate the readers and the partners
• to make this content available in several channels (online and offline)
• to identify organizations interested to widespread it
