Grants:IdeaLab/Produce thought provoking but interesting videos on harassment for the people to watch
Project idea
editWhat is the problem you're trying to solve?
editI am trying to address the problem of harassment at workplaces. Despite of so much talk, knowledge and preaching of safe working environment for the both male and female workers, both male and female are still facing daily harassment attempts from their co-workers. This harassment is to be stopped in order to encourage women (and men) to come forward to put their contributions in local and national development.
What is your solution?
editHarassment can be controlled by making the people acknowledge that the harassment free atmosphere is more pleasant, more peaceful and more friendly than that of with harassment. This can be done by making short movie clips, documentaries that illustrate the joys, satisfaction and attitude of the people who work in a friendly and harassment free environment. The videos should include interesting voice-overs, expression of presenters, and the characters of the videos. Nice effects can be of great value. Here is an example of what I am talking about.

In this way, an atmosphere of respecting and caring the female co-workers can be created. Apart from sharing on social media, these videos can be displayed to the people in offices, schools, colleges, factories, and other workplaces where male and female workers work together. It can bring the harassment incidence to minimum number.
A discussion session can be done with the participants (viewers) of the activity to collect their feedback and suggestions. These suggestion will help improve the strategy.

editOpposition
edit- Oppose I oppose this for a number of reasons. First, the idea is very infantilizing. The overwhelming majority of Wikipedians do not need to be lectured on basic social skills and would probably feel belittled if they were. It's like you're lecturing a whole school on toilet etiquette because one pupil took a shit on the toilet seat. Second, if you want to avoid that problem and only target the harassers or would-be harassers, then.. I don't see how you're going to achieve that. Third, actual trolls and intentional harassers are just going to laugh at you wasting your time on trying to potty train them. They know how to take a proper dump, they just want to piss people off by intentionally doing it on the seat. --Doveofsymplegades (talk) 09:59, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
