What is the problem you're trying to solve?

To motivate people to participate by giving a positive feedback.

What is your solution?

In general, create and establish a good spirit. Those people with knowledge and skills needed for projects will be attracted. To courage and motivate the right people to participate on a project, the project has to give a feedback of appreciation. Thus, a project can give back a good “Spirit” for constructively participating, valuing the nature of its past work for projects the account had been or actually is participating. Thereby, the “Spirit” expresses what can be expected from an user for future projects, too.

The “Spirit” is an automatic measure on the base of (e.g. article or discussion) work and reactions of other participants by saying e.g. “thank” you. All kinds of measurable actions of and related to an account are accumulate into the “Spirit” of the respective account.

For the acceptance of a majority of users of a project, the “Spirit” must be transparent, discussible and always open for changes. Every account should be able to accept and hence activate its “Spirit” by her/himself. The project wide introduction is the decision of its participants.

Essentially, the “Spirit” is for motivation and may not discourage anyone participating at any time. Everyone is welcome to participate, help and work and able to show his/her level of “Spirit” for the projects. Therefore, any common kind of reactions as e.g. "like or dislike” , value the work by 0 to 5 stars” etc. are not proper for the “Spirit”. Only helpful actions for the project are valued by the “Spirit”, anything else is ignored.

If the “Spirit” is introduced project wide, it can be used to (help to) decide whether to apply possible account rights. This can be everything the involved community decides.
