What is the problem you're trying to solve? edit
Innovation is currently at a low ebb in the Community/Foundation interfaction. There is some movement towards tactical, responsive tool-building. What I want to see is a vibrant eco-system of related sites tools and apps building out from and supporting the Foundation initiatives
What is your solution? edit
Initially a portal, growing out into a network or virtual community layered on top of the MediaWiki community. In person interactions developing into physical locations in various cities linked to existing research innovation and development communities. Long-term research co-funded by WMF with an innovative context.
Goals edit
I see Innovation as happening in three overlapping stages.
- Fostering an innovation mindset and culture across the movement – community engagement and outreach, horizon scanning and road mapping, research and development
- Developing an innovation ecosystem around the Wikimedia mission – partnerships in academia and startups, hubs and spokes in global innovation centres
- Implementation – spinout
