What is the problem you're trying to solve? edit
Statistics won't inspire participation, but role models might.
What is your solution? edit
Enlist editors who are already prominent in their public image, to serve as role models for other editors. They may already be established editors on Wikipedia, or they may be relatively recent (recruited in part for this purpose).
Share the stories of both women and men, so it's not perceived as a charity project. The aspirational image should be one of equality.
But don't choose this proposal (or any other) just because it sounds good! Test this and other ideas with your intended audience... Grants:IdeaLab/Study the gap with in-depth targeted interviews, not just statistics and crowdsourcing
