Project idea

edit

What is the problem you're trying to solve?

edit

Less than 20% of wiki editors are female. This is one of the reasons that wiki material is biased towards men. More female editors would help to balance this.

What is your solution?

edit

I think that if women had an easy way to learn the basic editing skills via an online course that was aimed at women, we could encourage more women to become editors.

Endorsements

  1. Endorse. While there are mentorship efforts scattered about, they aren't easy to find unless they are compiled at the Teahouse. And even if you find a mentoship group, what with specialization, slots already filled, mentors on hiatus, it's had to find a good match. A formal WP-based program would be extremely helpful. There could be several pathways for new editors or administation bound. Set goals and reach step by step with guidance. Reward program graduates with a fancy diploma on their user page, coverage in the The Signpost newsletter, anything that will instill pride and satisfaction. I was hoping there was a format. I have never applied for funding here before. It would be great to get one to two thousand dollars. If I had that available I would spend it on developing the curriculum. Even $500 would be good. I am a qualified teacher and could do the curriculum development. Would I be allowed to pay some of that money to myself to do that? Otherwise without funding, I will run by the seat of my pants and do something more ad hoc. It may still work.

Are there any guidelines for a funding application?
